This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning folks. My restful sleep has been disturbed by geese, they must be in the field but hidden by the early morning mist. They've been squawking away for over an hour. ☹️ There are better than an alarm clock.Yesterday I did more gentle pottering and managed to make the living room free of the 'jumble'. The day turned really hot so I sat out in the garden a few times, I cut off a couple of annoying low lying branches of the black lace elder tree and some clematis tendrils. Once that was done I had a better view of the bird feeders. 😀
its just as well I'm up early, I'm going down to Glasgow. The Dutchman and Alan are arriving about 9.30 to help shift more stuff. Now I must shower and shift myself. I hope our poorlies are mending and I'm thinking especially of Dumpling's DSis.Happy Tuesday to all.13 -
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dry, but sun rising and warm start to the day already.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was salad, ham, boiled egg, pork pie (menfolk) hot new potatoes - was enjoyed by us all as not too heavy in this heat. Not sure about tonight but have plenty in just not sure what to cook!
Yesterday as expected work was manic, so will see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting Gers. Hope you have a good journey to Glasgow.Another sunny morning! I know the heat can be a bit trying, but I love the sunshine, not that I sunbathe, but it's a good mood lifter.I went to Du*elm yesterday and bought a cushion cover and one or two small things, then we were in for the rest of the day. DH is tidying the loft and has a tip run planned for today, and I need to go to the shops for a few things, so that's today sortedThinking of our poorly people, incuding Dumpling's sister.Take care folks.12

Morning all! Slept a bit longer today although that didn't include getting up three or four times to throw some water on me so the fan felt like it was cooling me. And I am sporting a rather natty mosquito bite on my ankle so I think I'll be drinking some tonic water for a change , plus running man has just thumped past in his boots. Talking of empty shelves in supermarket, I went into Boots yesterday to get contact lens stuff and discovered the entire supply of contact lens stuff was empty. So then I went to the Big M and found some of thiers which will do in a pinch and also discovered fig trees outside. Now, where my mother always wanted a kiwi tree and eventually got one and it now festoons the wall in Italy I've always wanted a fig, so Frederika is now potted up in pride of sunny place adorned by her seven figs in some nice juciy compost.Thank you for congratulating me, another bunch of many pounds [ ahem! not saying how many] and I'll be able to have [far too much of that good thing] nice food again, where I equate nice food with butter and bread. I'd love to say it's been a hard slog or something like that but this time my head is in the game still so only having occasional wobbles instead of daily wobbles. On the plus side [no! not for much longer!], I'm eating a lot more fish. Obviously my intelligence factor has been upped which is contributing to continued Italian learning. No, not really, but I'd like to think so. My father used to make us kippers for breakfast every day when we were taking exams to help us think. Don't know if it worked but it was still enjoyable. So today, blood test, spot of garden, coffe with friends in their garden and sweaty heap again. Oh, and we had home grown potatoes yesterday and they were delicious, hats off to International Kidney!Gers, hope that you don't have to do that for much longer but geese alarm clocks? Noisy, scary but useful
Florence, I did try to restrain myself from asking, so what did he do to end up there? but I didnt...
nanny, no, every loss is significant if it means a good thing for you! Glad your knee went down, it was obviously caused by inner application of lollies...you should continue with that therapy..TA, you could always come over all faint in front of your neighbour and pull the 'woe-is-me-I'm-just-a -little-old-lady act, he might offer to help
camlot, how were the gardens they soundedlovely..As did Alnwick Scarlet, must book a trip there one day when it's less fraught to travel. dumpling, hope your sister's op went well , that's a long time to be under a knife.WL, ,no, I might not forgo that either, sounds lovely! Big up to the readers along, hope you're tolerable but cool...choc ices all round....

Good morning everyone
Thank you for all the kind thoughts about my sister. I finally heard she had come through the operation at 11pm so it was a very long day. She will be in hospital for another couple of weeks before she can make the long journey home. My BIL is staying at a hotel next to the hospital for a couple of days but then he has to come home and look after their daughter and go back to work. I hope so much that the surgeon got rid of the cancer so she has a chance of a few more years yet.
Didn't sleep much last night and am quite weepy this morning. I think it's a reaction to all the stress of the past couple of weeks. I made Steve take the dogs out though while it's still just warm and then he can be home with me and make me many medicinal cups of tea. I think I just need lots of cwtches today.
Our shopping finally arrived last night nearly an hour late with no explanation or apology. I am so happy though to have choices again. I think I will have a bacon sandwich for breakfast when Steve gets back and then we have quiche and baby potatoes with salad for dinner.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx11 -
Good morning all; going to be another scorcher here.
It's our day to look after 2yr DGS so we'll be trying to keep him out of the sun. The play equipment at the park might get too hot so we'll have to be careful. I do have a water table for the garden, bought 2nd hand on FB Marketplace, so will put that up in some shade. I washed and saved some yoghourt pots so maybe grandad will make a few holes in the bottom and that should provide a lot of fun.
The patio men ran out of grouting stuff yesterday so have to come back for an hour or so to finish off today. We then have to be vigilant about any bird poo (or wine!) that might be spilt on it and scrub it off with water and a yard broom until it can be sealed in about 6 weeks time. We now have a vague plan to get some work done at the front so will discuss that with them this morning. We've lived in this house since 1987 and haven't really touched the outside so this feels like a bit of a treat.
Must go and make myself decent now! Enjoy your day everyone.11 -
Morning folks and thanks GERS. Have a safe journey down to Glasgow. Slowly but surely you are winning the clearing race .It's been a long hard slog for you.
I slept better last night thanks to the fan but I wish it wasn't quite so noisy! Another scorcher in store so once again not a lot will get done. Although the front garden is looking slightly better this morning after DS cut the wayward hedge (with me as sweeper upper) and in among I pulled quite a few more weeds up. I don't know what's happened to the Staghorn Sumac this year. Half of it looks dead and the other half flourishing. There are runners sprouting up everywhere and I think it's time is up, it looks such a mess. A shame as it was beautiful in it's prime.
I have a grocery delivery between 8 and 10. Not a very big order, just a top up shop and, most importantly, more Cornetto and Vienetta to feed my heatwave addition! DD and the 2 youngest called by after tea, on their way up to the moor gate for an evening stroll, and they raided my already dwindling supplies for something cool to help them on their way! I wished I could have joined them but my legs are no longer able to tackle the walk. DD sent me a photo once up there of the spot where we scattered Bob's ashes. He so loved it up there and, once of a day, it was our regular dog walking route.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, woeful and convalescents. DUMPLING I was thinking of your sister and hoping all went as well as it could. She's a very brave young lady. Take care one and all and stay safe x

Morning All
Warm and sunny already, your trip down to Glasgow should have plenty of good views Gers.
Our trip to the Botanic Gardens was wonderful, such a peaceful, beautiful place. Their long border was particularly spectacular, makes my garden look very small (it is) and shoddy. The little one had a great time running on the grass and we all enjoyed the picnic under a tree in the shade. Called at the allotment on the way home, collected two rather large courgettes that certainly weren't that big on Saturday!
Swimming with the little one this morning, just the thing for a warm sunny day. They will probably stay for lunch then I can relax under the brolly outside!
Glad your DS has come through her op dumpling.
Hugs to anyone in need.
Take care XX10 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread Gers and hugs to all, those in need.
I've missed posting for a few days as I've had a few computer problems.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers, hope the journey down to Glasgow was not too bad this morning, hopefully it would be cool. Dumpling, pleased to hear your sister has come through the op ok. Wondered where you were Hester.......
Welcome to the centre of the heatwave!!! its just after 8am and well over 60F, had both fans on all day yesterday, remade the bed with just a sheet to cover us, so I slept ok.
When our bungalow was first built, it was a steel prefab, the steel is still inside the brick work which is why it gets so hot.......
Neighbour came round and did another hour on the greenhouse, putting the door on, we did manage to get it the wrong way round at first and then the runners came off the top and shed tiny ball bearings everywhere. I have to ring this morning and get 2 new ones. We then have to fit the roof light and louvred panel and we can put the glass in. Mind you I really did myself in yesterday, we ended up having a ding dinner, the stuff I prepared yesterday is in the fridge for tonight.
So a bit of a relaxing day today, All my muscles are screaming, so its painkiller time.
Supper tonight will be last nights lamb and veggies, the raspsberries are going mad in the heat. I also picked a courgette which had been hiding, thought it was a marrow. We also had a picking of climbing beans, so very little veg needed from Aldi this week.5
