It's not a case of getting what you pay for; the whole 'profession' is pretty useless, with one or two golden exceptions. Having said that, you can help yourself avoid corruption, if not incompetence, by ensuring your solicitor is independent of your vendor/buyer/builder, as suggested.

The solicitor likely does not have the information needed to complete the form.

They don't know who your broker is, what your deposit amount is or what property you are buying - unless someone tells them.

If you have the information, wouldn't it be easier for you to just complete the form?

If you want Gleeson to complete it, then pass it on to Gleeson. Then again - I do not know why Gleeson would know what your deposit is or what broker you are using.

They won't have. The reservation form is what they/we use to open the file. There's limited information on there but enough to get the file opened and initial paperwork out which contains a questionnaire to complete. Which like I say is standard practice, not laziness.

I'm curious what actual information you gave to Gleeson? Did you go into great detail regarding the source of funds? Did you give the address of your Great Aunt Edna who's gifting funds? It not why did you expect your Solicitor to know this?

Online conveyancing agents are absolutely notorious for delivering a terrible service - but are cheap compared to local solicitors' firms
Not always.  My vendor is paying more to sell the house than I am paying to buy it.

They are using the conveyancing shed recommended by their online EA and it has been truly appalling.

These situations are so frustrating. Your vendor's conveyancers will be paying a "referral fee" to their online EA.

The referral fee Purple Bricks get from their tied conveyancers is £380. Why is why their conveyancer's fees need to be more expensive than others despite offering shocking service.

The vendors are not saving nearly as much on EA fees as they think !!!
