Waterproof mattress protector

Hello,

I am looking for some advice. I purchased a divan mattress set from Bensons, along with a waterproof mattress protector.

It turns out the protector isn’t waterproof and now has a water stain.

I called Bensons and they said the protector is not waterproof, it’s water resistant. Yet on the website it says waterproof.

They therefore refused to help me.

When I mentioned a section 75 claim the guy told me ‘That would be a false claim and would affect your credit score’

I have looked in to this and I cannot go through section 75 as the protector was less than £100. Is chargeback worth it? Do chargeback claims succeed? The mattress and protector were delivered less than two weeks ago.

Well if their website says waterPROOF, then you have a case, because waterproof means impermeable so no water should have got through it.

They are talking utter rubbish about your credit score being affected by a claim. It will only affect a credit score if it goes to court, you lose then you fail to pay.

What does the packaging say? If the packaging mentions water resistant (and not water proof) then it would have been common sense to double check...

    Is it this one:

Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

In which case the packaging should say:

    • Stain repellent and water resistant. Liquid beads up and stays on the surface so you can sponge or wipe away.

So definitely not water proof! I appreciate they made a mistake on their website (do you have a screenshot of this?) but as the packaging doesn't mention waterproof anywhere then it would have been down to you to check this.

Most waterproof mattress protectors are a horrible texture and rustle!

But did you buy it from the website?

    No mention of "waterproof" then.

    Hi,

yes I purchased from the website.

I saw the term ‘waterproof’, assuming it meant waterproof. Underneath it then goes on to say ‘water resistant’.

By the time I had grabbed a towel the water had already passed through. It’s also left a water mark, which I presumed would have been stopped by the ‘stain resistant’ feature.

It was purchased for my son who is severely asthmatic, so being anti allergy it looked like the ideal protector. I won’t buy one of these again!!

    Thanks all.

Well it would not effect your credit score.
But you also would not have a S75 claim due to the cost of the item. £26.99?

    Hi,

Yes I realised afterwards that I’m under the £100 spend.

I don’t think it’s right of Bensons to be telling people that section 75 affects credit scores though, bit naughty!

    • Waterproof

    • Water resistant cover to prevent liquids seeping in when accidents occur

I think  'waterproof ' is a heading and the statement underneath explains the type of waterproofing providing. In this case water resistant.
