Do I need legal cover

Hi,
my car has been sorn for a little over a year now. I’m also a named driver on my partners car, which is actually the only car I drive at the moment.
I will not be driving my car for the foreseeable at least (basically deciding on getting work done or scrapping), but I will be driving my partners.
Question is about additional extras; is there any point adding protected NCD or Motor Legal Protection under these circumstances?
Would I need that cover if I’m named on my partners insurance and not driving my car?

I’m about to get my car insurance as I don’t want to lose my NCD (most insurers count NCD earned within the last 2 years).
So I’m literally only getting insurance to keep my NCD.

NCDP would be on your own car, so if you are happy risking the NCD being reduced if the car was, for example, stolen then save the money on that one.
Legal Expenses is vehicle related so your partner's policy covers you when driver their vehicle and yours for yours. The probability of a non-fault accident in a vehicle you've SORNed is fairly slim.1 -
If you don't want to lose your NCD, an option which doesn't mean paying for a whole year's insurance that you don't really need is for you to be the policyholder on your partner's car for a year. By alternating the policyholder annually you can keep both your NCDs going indefinitely (or at least until you have a claim).
You will have to check carefully the questions and assumptions about who is the car owner, who is the main driver etc, but most insurers will not have a problem with you being the policyholder on your partner's car.1 -
I use this one which isn’t related to a particular vehicle and costs £15

I’ve read most insurers will include NCD earned in the last 2 years. So would that be 2 years from when I took out an insurance policy or 2 years from when it ended?0
