Telephone Bidding on a New Build Home?

Hi, I was hoping for some advice as some of you may have experience of this process.
I recently wanted to buy a new build home and was advised I had to call on a Particular day at 11:00am. I got the two telephone numbers we were given and my wife and I started making calls at the allocated time.
There was no answer despite us calling repeatedly on both numbers. Finally we got though 20 minutes later to be told all properties were reserved.
Not sure if people started calling pre 11am but we were told no one would answer before then..
Is there any advice on how best to go through this process in future?
Thanks

It’s a difficult situation if the development is popular. A few years back a colleague and his girlfriend were interested in buying a house in the former athletes village development in Glasgow, and it was the same situation. Phone at a certain time to reserve. They missed out on the first release, so with the second we were all recruited to call, and whoever got through passed off the call. With 8 of us calling we were successful.

It is difficult, but about the only proactive thing that can be done is avoiding dealing with developers who treat potential clients as cattle rather than customers.
Also worth bearing in mind that if a development is that insanely popular, the buyers are likely to end up paying significantly more than the true market value, just to be able to 'win'.
