In North Birmingham try Great Barr. Depending on which part you look at there is an Asda (One Stop), Aldi (Scott Arms) and a Co -op at Tower Hill. And from the main road you can get a bus Walsall which has Lidl, Morrisons and Tesco.
It's near to M6, and has good bus service to Birmingham
Also Sutton Coldfield, it has a train and bus service to Birmingham.
In Mere Green there is a Sainsburys and a Waitrose.
Most local buses are run by Travel WM so if you find a house you like you can search for bus routes and timetables.

Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)1 -
Cheshire !
Maybe not Hale, Wilmslow or Alderley Edge as very expensive.
Same for Didsbury and Chorlton.
Northwich, Sandbach and most areas nearby offer good value country living.
Lots of Aldi supermarkets and even Waitrose in Sandbach1 -
Bromsgrove. £280k would just about get you a three bed semi last year. It would definitely buy you a 1960s house.25 minutes drive from Birmingham city, but there's also a fast train. We have FTTP here. It's safe, low crime, lots of families, surrounded by green fields, good schools and the independent restaurant scene is finally taking hold. We have recently been blessed with the ubiquitous Waitrose! Motorway access is excellent so you can escape to anywhere quickly. The first house that popped up at £280k is in a great location. My best friend lives about 100
yards away. Aston Fields has its own funky village vibe and it right by the station, but walking distance to town. Dowstairs bathroom is random, but it's good size for money and location.Corbett Close, Bromsgrove B60 2EGEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I used to live in the town of Bolton. It's very accessible to Manchester and the house prices are very cheap. 3 bed terraced houses in a nice area are around £90k, and your budget would get you a very spacious detached. Bit of a hole near the town centre, but plenty of nice areas as you get further out.0

Yes. Loads of regeneration going on there. Massive M&S, shiny new high street, train station and the Digbeth Dining Club is setting up a permanent venue there too.[DELETED USER] said:Thanks, lots of interesting suggestions that I will investigate! Half the battle is knowing where to look.
Any cheaper areas? Looking at Longbridge, sometimes stuff comes up there that is well under budget and looks very spacious. Then I'd have a few quid left over to do it up, install some air conditioning etc.
I live between Bromsgrove and Longbridge and use Longbridge quite a bit for shopping.
I found a 1950/1960s house for a client there and she's really happy. Moved in a year ago.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
