Update: Eventually someone sensible from British Gas Evolve. Thank you Lorna. I am in the process of getting rid of British Gas Evolve and they will be gone on the 18th August.

Meanwhile, there is the problem of the fictitious readings being used by British Gas Evolve. These need to be settled because the billing will be wrong otherwise. I sent Lorna a series of photos of the meters over the last two months to raise a meter reading dispute, and will take one final one on the 17th. And she will sort it out, I hope.

It was great to be actually helped by someone who invested energy and time into a resolution.

HOWEVER, the question remains as to how British Gas Evolve were able to "create" exaggerated readings, that had no relationship to closing readings from British Gas or opening readings for PFP, or the actual real readings as of today (as a guide, they think the electricity is several hundred units more than the meter shows right now) and then record these false readings as ACTUAL on the statement. Which then needs me to run about to prove they are wrong.

Update: some weeks later. Continuing to be billed for electricity to today by British Gas Evolve, with new fictitious readings shown as ACTUAL, despite them not being my supplier for a month. The fictitious readings are over 1000 more than the real reading.
In contact with an unapologetic case handler who keeps on attempting to give bland assurances and "close the case". Far from resolved, yet British Gas still unable and it appears unwilling to sort themselves out.

Oh joy. A final ironic twist. Just as this was beginning to get sorted out, PFP go under ... and the appointed company to take over is .. (drum roll) ... British Gas. So we now will have British Gas proper negotiating with "Pretend Bill" British Gas Evolve over the inflated readings.
    My cup runneth over.
Actually I think I will sit back for 2 - 3 months until the dust settles and then check everything and then .. move to something reliable. Octopus seems peace of mind worthy.

  • Wow you've really had a rough time of it. Make sure you are taking pictures of your meter readings and definitely note down the meter readings for dates of changeovers. Technically british gas has already taken over your supply, assuming the supply is actually PFP. If it is still technically evolve, it might be better to cut your losses and stick to whichever tariff is cheapest on british gas for now.
