Thoughts on moving to Liverpool

After an opportunity arise at work to transfer to Liverpool in a better position I`m thinking to move up there especially the house prices are more decent compared with Birmingham area at first sight.
Any areas/postcode to avoid please?

South end of lpool is generally regard as desirable, some parts of L11, L8, L4, L20 would be cheaper.

Why not rent for 6/12 and see if your employer will help with moving costs or rental costs.
I assume they want you to move ?

When my daughter first worked in central Liverpool she lived in Southport as we had friends there. She would take the train in and it was very convenient for the centre and she didn't need to concern herself with parking for work.

My son, different city, took on a room share to start with. Through spare room.com. all bills included and a lodging agreement so it was easy to.move on when he was ready to.

I grew up in Aigburth and it's lovely there. Lots of nice bits. Woolton and Allerton are lovely- very self contained as well as being right near the centre. Crosby is lovely too and if you go slightly further out you hit Blundellsands which is very pretty and right on the coast.

Avoid Toxteth (esp. the Old Swan,) bits of Croxteth/Anfield/Everton- though there are some nice streets. Vauxhall and Halewood are pretty rough and there are a lot of drugs.
    Bottom line;

    Car HP paid off

Saved Escape fund and moved out.

The plan it`s to rent initially for 6 months and in the meantime to search something to buy, but I`m interested to see different opinions about the city as overall and also what neighborhoods to avoid. My employer will not cover any expenses as it`s more voluntary just to get in a better pay bracket.

Thank you, also what`s your opinion about Wallasey/New Brighton, Birkenhead?
  • I lived in Liverpool for 3 years in the streets around Queens Drive so Wavertree/Mossley Hill area. I loved it and would move back in an instant - nice compact city, good transport links, lots to do, reasonable cost of living.

The centre of Birkenhead was very rough and ready, but bits of the Wirral are lovely and I can see the attraction of somewhere like Wallasey where you've got countryside on your doorstep and the city not far away. Not sure what it's like to live in I'm afraid.

Also couldn't comment on Wallasey- however worked with a couple of people who lived in New Brighton and they liked the area. I agree with @Indigo_and_Violet on avoiding the very centre of Birkenhead- however a lot of the outer bits are nice.

The Wirral on the whole is really nice- Hoylake and West Kirkby are v. posh and are easy travelling distance to Liverpool.

I think it depends greatly on what you are looking for and where you will be working.

Do you have children?  If so a house with a garden in a good school district is essential.
Are you a couple? If so, your partners tastes need to be catered for.
Are you a party animal, loving nightlife?  If so, a city location might be better, in a flat, perhaps rather than a house. - just be aware that the majority of flats in Liverpool are Leasehold, with monthly fees + ground rent to consider.

Do you drive?  Much of The Wirral is lovely,
but if you need to use the tunnel each day to drive to and from work in Liverpool - that can amount to a chunk of change annually.

Aigburth, Allerton, Crosby,Woolton and Blundellsands if you want to live on the coast are all very nice areas which have already been suggested for a quieter lifestyle but within easy reach of the City go give the best of both worlds.

Or stick to the City Centre if you love life in the hub.

    Good luck !.
