Finding a lost Life Insurance Policy after a bereavement

I wonder if anyone knows how to go about finding a Life Insurance Policy which my brother believes his wife had taken out. Sadly she died last week.  All I can find is the ABI list of insurance companies which we would have to approach individually - how long have you got??

Can anyone help please?

She may or may not have taken-out a policy earlier in life.  If she did it may or may not still exist    There is no central register of life policies to which all providers subscribe.

Try looking at bank statements to see if she was paying any premiums for life cover.   If so, the reference alongside the payment will often be the policy number.   Otherwise, you would need to find some documentation which shows that a policy actually exists.

If you search  ' Unclaimed Asset Resgister '  you may find details of certain policies  (e.g.  where an endowment has matured  and the Life Office has been unable to trace the policyholder and may decide to post details).

How old was she?

In most cases if she had a policy then she'd be paying premiums and so look at bank statements to find if she's paying any insurance company.
