When applying for the Virgin credit card, what do I need to do in order to benefit from the 0% credit transfer?
Do I need to 'pretend' that I have a large outstanding balance with an existing credit card provider?

Sounds like you're new to the world of credit cards. I would suggest that you read the articles on credit cards - click the orange 'credit cards' box at the left of this screen.
