It's lazy policing. There are laws governing the sale of blades in the UK so rather than spend hundreds of thousands of pounds trying to weed out those sales not allowed, and those sales allowed it is easier to ban everything. I have got Kukri knives here that I have no idea what to do with, they often turn up in mixed auction lots and due to rules around blade length, licenses, age of buyer etc I can't actually sell them anywhere. Instead I wrap and store them all in the loft until I can find a way of giving them to a museum or collector (they are old and some are historical so I don't just want to dump them)

It seems to be the way of eBay now.
I've read a couple of threads about validation requiring driving licence or passport.

I'm somewhat disenchanted with eBay at the moment.
I've just spent wasted time revising my listings to say I don't accept offers.
Even though I set up the original listing to say I didn't accept offers and I revised the listings to say I didn't want offers last week, it is still relisting with offers enabled.
Despite a chat with eBay last week, apparently there's nothing they can do.
Regardless of what the seller wants their listings to look like, eBay disagree and do their own thing.

I bought an item from Amazon that was just under £20 so I bought spare Stanley knife blades to get free P&P.
I had to show my passport to the delivery driver before I could get my parcel and I am 76 years old.

  • Honestly if you lads are going to be buying knives from ebay, go for the Sabatier brand. They are extremely cheap and ive had them for more than half a year and no signs of dulling. Read the Sabatier knives review if youre interested in it. But my recommendation would be these knives 100% :) MalMonroe said:

So they are asking the buyer to verify.  Wondering if ordinary person like me can sell knives?  Just came across a good set of kitchen knives which I was planning to list.   Something tells me I won't be allowed to list?
Some knives are allowed, as per this from ebay :

    But not kitchen knives, sadly.

    Buying knives from eBay?
Have you read the link provided by MalMonroe that says:

Knives are generally prohibited on eBay.

    Not allowed:
    • Sharp kitchen knives (as in pair blocks), cake knives, carving knives, pairing knives, oyster knives and electric knives

The original post was about buying forks from eBay and being asked to provide verification.

I listed a kitchen carving knife and knife sharpener on ebay which got pulled understandably but it was pulled because I had listed them as bone handled and the concern was I was selling ivory. Never clicked at the time mainly because I'd seen kitchen knives listed on ebay when I listed these.
The handles were stag antler (for clarification) and were old having previously belonged to my grandmother.
May you find your sister soon Helli.

Maybe that was the reason they gave you but I think it would also have been pulled because it was a carving knife.

I've searched for Sabatier knives on eBay and the only ones listed are steak knives and palette knives.

There are a lot of kitchen knives listed, I've scanned the first page and they all seem to be steak knives.
    Ebay policy says:

    The following knives are allowed:

    • Dining cutlery sets that include knives used for eating
