£1.24 a gallon? Assume you're not in the UK then?

RAC Foundation disagree with The AA ... not quite yet as high as 2013:

In fact most other historical fuel price resources tell the same story.

Cheapest way to cut petrol costs is to use a bicycle instead. Round here all the cars queue up in lines and the drivers just sit there doing nothing. I just fly past them all on my bicycle. I save loads of money AND get to my destination much quicker.
  • Remember when petrol was about 0.97 a litre last March/April when lockdown started BUT we couldn't go anywhere!!

What if your destination is 60 miles away.  Or 500?  I'd be willing to bet I'd get there quicker in my car than you on your bike.

Cycling doesn't make petrol cheaper, you just buy less. Same as being a veggie and the cost of bacon sandwiches. I did a trip from Leeds to Warwickshire and back, last weekend, and prices at stations I passed ranged from £1.24 to £1.39 a litre. The highest wasn't even on the motorway. I think there's a degree of profiteering going on.

Highest I've paid this year was ~£1.50 a litre for diesel at Scotch Corner services. (Yay for fuel cards where I'm only charged 8p per mile for personal mileage). :)
