Letter From LCSDR claiming overpayment during Pandemic

Hi All,
First time poster though I've used the site quite a lot over the years.
I've had a letter from a company called LCS, they state that they are acting on behalf of HMRC to reclaim a "Tax Credit overpayment during the Coronavirus pandemic". I don't claim tax credits, didn't claim tax credits before, during or since the pandemic but they are asking for £719.76. I'd have dismissed it but the company and site look legit. Can anybody shed any light on this for me? What should I do? HAs anyone else had the same?
Thanks for any responses in advance.
Andy

Have you tried to contact HMRC?0

Are you saying that you have never claimed Tax Credits either on your own or as part of a couple?
You will need to contact HMRC to see if they can provide you with any information.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Exactly that. My wife and I don't qualify and have never claimed.calcotti said:Are you saying that you have never claimed Tax Credits either on your own or as part of a couple?

I suppose I just thought if this mistake has been made with me, then they must have made it with others?0 -
Not yet, I was hoping someone would say they've seen loads of people with this happening, it was a known mistake and just to ignore it. Sitting on hold to HMRC sounds like a compete drain and isn't something my boss is likely to be okay withTELLIT01 said:Have you tried to contact HMRC?

You've never ever claimed any tax credits, even if if was 20 years ago? There are catching up with people that owe money from as far back as 2002.

Nope. The letter does specifically say during the Coronavirus pandemic, however I had no claim before that either.poppy12345 said:You've never ever claimed any tax credits, even if if was 20 years ago? There are catching up with people that owe money from as far back as 2002.1 -
Then you'll need to ring them as we can only guess why you've received that letter.

As others have said it is hard to say - the wording about the pandemic is very odd though. Tax credit overpayments during the pandemic wouldn't have crystallised yet as 2020-21 claims are not yet finalised. Is that the exact wording in your quote marks? Does it say anything else about which tax years it relates to?Riafelttil said:Hi All,

try phoning as soon as lines open . Start dialling just before the time to be at the front of the queue.
HMRC do use LCS but have you checked that the details for LCS on the letter are genuine.0 -
A second thought. Debt agencies trace people whose whereabouts are unknown but do sometimes follow a wrong trail..0
