This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning folks. At 4am there was thick fog over the sea, later there was bright sunshine and now it's very cloudy. Don't think I'll be getting the blazing sunshine of yesterday.I had my haircut yesterday, the woman always cuts it a tad too short so I've made my next appointment for eight weeks time. After that I had a phone call about booking a venue for a wee gathering in celebration of my DM's life. It'll be a short'ish event, probably three hours or so. We've settled on a date in late September, one more duck sorted out.In the afternoon the porters from the auction house arrived to collect nine pieces of furniture, six paintings and an assortment of jewellery. After that the place felt even more forlorn. All the places where the heavy pieces of furniture were are filthy behind, thick dust on the skirtings and carpet but I really couldn't face doing anything about there and then so I sorted some of my own things and drove home. The nice news is that the painting of the back rooms has been done, it all looks so fresh and clean. 😀 Mind you the entire place is in a right old guddle. All the stuff from the kitchen and utility room is piled in the living room and I've added in a number of big bags of things I've brought up with me. Added to the chaos are the six parcels from places I'd ordered from - mostly new bird feeders, mealworms, Niger seed etc. I need to start to sort through the mess today. My thoughts are with our poorlies. Happy Friday to all.11

Morning folks and thanks GERS for starting off. The sun is shining and it's forecast to reach 26 deg so that might be a tad too warm for sitting out reading so it may be an indoor read. I have the Friday Tidy this morning but it's too hot for anything more than a quick trundle round with the duster and vac then a day of sloth. Apart from half an hour or so at lunchtime when the hairdresser is coming to do a much needed trim. It seems to grow so much faster in the summer. I hope she isn't in scissor happy mode as she sometimes can be!
Good news yesterday. Doting gran alert!! Renaissance Arts informed DD that middle DGD (12) has been successful following her audition and accepted for tuition from September. They said "she showed great talent, work-ethic and potential following on from her stellar training at her current dance school." It only involves weekends but more expense and ferrying around for DD!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies and woeful. Hoping RUBY and co, DUMPLING and Mr Fixit are feeling a bit better. NAN take it easy, the garden can wait. You've had a stressful few weeks. Thinking of our MIA as always. Take care one and all xx

Morning! Sunny again. Did more riddling yesterday, cut the grass, did the edges and some straps arrived so I hung those over the curtains in the goth box [ not so goth now, the sun has bleached the fabric to a mid grey] and cut a couple of slits in the hem area, slid in two bamboo poles, rolled up the sides and strapped them up. Nice to have found a workable solution for the now. They're back down again for today to give some shade when it's hot but they'll be back up again after the sun has gone across. I think I'll get the barbecue out of it's box and put that together to potentially use this weekend. We can have kebabs or spicy chicken or something.WM is on, there's one more load to do after I've scoured the house for things to add to the load. I do want to go out briefly to get some more magic cupboard tablets which tells me I've used the it nearly 130 times since it was installed. That's over at least 260 times the washing up I've saved myself [assuming each load is at least two sessions of washing dishes]. Yippety skippety....Hester, hope you get your car back soon. I' assuming it's an insurance job which will be why they want to spray it..discontiued paint or somesuch followed by more pennies to respray...Nanny, if you know anyone in the council, ask them to come with an industrial strimmer for a few quid in your neighbours garden. Sorry about not telling you about tom hardy before, but you will have to fight my sister for him. TA congratulations to middle DGD! Hello anyone who can't be faffed or can't post, enjoy all your days!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

Morning All
I've just been for a 40 minute swim in Loch Lomond and it was glorious. Went with a friend and her friends, 6 of us altogether with quite a few other people already there, will definitely be doing it again.
The weather is quite cloudy this morning, yesterday was wall to wall sunshine all day, I spent most of it under the sun brolly reading although I did pressure wash the bins after they had been emptied. Did my neighbour's too and an extra one - thought it was my neighbours then saw the house name on the side, it was from 3 doors down!
Taking the little one in the pool this morning whilst DD has a swim, they will probably stay here for lunch.
Congrats to your DGD TA, what a superstar.
More sorting for you Gers, it's never ending!
Hoping Ruby's household are on the mend and Mr Fixit feels better this morning.
Happy Friday, take care. XX11 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
It looks like being mega hot today, so DB will be out early this morning. Gardener is due after lunch, have a couple of jobs for him, dead heading and weeding especially the front. Hopefully the green house will go up tomorrow.
Towels in the washer, should dry quickly in the sun............
Only plan I have is to keep cool!!
TD congrats to your GD, life in ballet is tough, a lot of hard work goes into what you see on the stage. As a teenager I was a member of the Festival Ballet Fan Club, they used to come to the Demontfort Hall and we were allowed to go to rehearsals on Saturday morning. I actually met my mothers heartthrob, Anton Dolin. He danced his famous Bolero on one occasion as an extra bit of entertainment on their last night in Leicester. For several years we went on a day trip to London to see various ballet companies.
Enough of memories of a mis spent youth.......
Supper tonight will be fish and chips, I do both fish and chips are cooked in the oven, not fried. WE are now on Raspberries for dessert.8 -

Had to come back in to say a huge congratulations to TA's DGD - what an achievement! Darcy Bussell indeed. It's such a delight for the whole family and your DD who spends so much time supporting her. When I was teaching in Newcastle a report was published by the Times Educational Supplement which showed that it's (usually) mums who do all the driving, packing bags, packing lunches, spending hours watching etc and enable athletes achieve success.Camelot - WHAT???? Gosh, you're braver than I am!
Sounds both fabulous and scary at the same time. I'm very impressed with you.
Taff - how ingenious of you!Delivery man has brought me my new starling proof mealworms feeder so fingers crossed that it works. I've also got a new bird bath as the ancient one which came with the cottage finally gave up the ghost. It was nasty plastic which fell off the pedestal once too often.Back to the guddle. I was distracted by the delivery man and a phone call with my SIL in Oz.11 -
Morning all
Bright sunshine here and looks to be a scorcher, not that we can go anywhere ! We are housebound till Sunday so Monday is freedom day as long as we feel well!
I still have to sense of taste or smell which is a really horrible sensation, it is a real struggle to eat anything at all as its just like eating cardboard, I am still breatless and suffering ramdom aches and pains and coughing like a train !
I got a lovely supprise yesterday a delivery of the most beautiful sunflowers from the lovely NELS, bless her they really cheared me up. Such a nice supprise so thank you Nels xxx
Not much more to say, very basic housework being done here just keeping the kitchen clean and tidy really.
Hope those who are poorly make a good recovery and hugs to those in need xx12 -
Hello all, another sunny and hot day lies ahead here, can't fault it ! I'm going to be wearing my shorts so avert your eyes, me in a pair of shorts is not a pretty sight 😎I didn't have a very good sleep last night, too much worrying about things to come which I have no control over. Then I had a lie in this morning and now I can't get going, perhaps more coffee will do the trick.Yesterday was a day of sloth except new meds were ordered and I booked a dentist appointment, couldn't get in till Sept though. I read some more of my book too and will finish it later, although I'll be sad to finish it as it's a good read..Today another day of sloth lies ahead if it's as hot as expected. I need to do an online shop at some point today as I have a list of things that I haven't needed on a daily basis plus the usual culprits. Later we are being collected by DD ( after she finishes school) and we will go to her house for some food, I hope Mr Fix It can eat something. It will be a celebration of Mr Fix It finishing his treatment and our DGS finishing primary school. DGS will be going to his Dad's secondary school in Sept, where have all those years have gone since he was a tiny baby ?Right more coffee then I'll do some shopping.TA well done to your DGD such an achievement, she's going to be a star 🩰taff you are forgiven re Tom, I'm not up to fighting anyone these days anyway, I'd just use my charm 🤪Hugs to the poorlies, those struggling and those MIA, there seem to be an awful lot missing now.Take care all, stay safenan xx
