@Neil_Jones - I will be completely honest with you, the fan vent thing you mentioned is going right over my head.  Someone suggested it to me in the past but it made no sense to me at all.

@petegreenfield - does your Apple one whirr or not?  I'm happy to splash out as long as it doesn't whirr.
This is a bit crazy. You have a £500 ASUS laptop that’s a decent machine. It may need a bit of a clean out of accumulating dust. If you can’t do it yourself, you should get a computer repairer to do it. It’s not a big job.

I don’t think that it’s a warranty repair, but you might be lucky.

You may need to think about how you use the machine, to avoid so much dust getting in.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Thanks for your time.

The laptop is used on a desk and sometimes at night if I am watching something on YouTube - not in a dusty environment at all.

It whirrs really loudly when on charge but then quietens down.  I've had laptops in the past at about £300 to £400 but they really did whirr a lot and very loudly.  This one has not too been bad until recently.

    On a bed,or a soft furnishing perhaps , or even a lap?
