Travel insurance refund issue

Hi just after some advice. We were due to go on holiday last year and booked insurance with just travel. It was cancelled and we were told not to worry and they would insure us this year for the 2 weeks we had moved to. We've just had this year's holiday cancelled by tui until next year. Spoken to just travel to say we can only have 25% of the refund. They can't roll it on as it'll be outside the 18 month period they allow. Any advice please. I've asked for it in writing as it seems wrong we've not had any insurance cover at all as holidays have both been cancelled yet can only get 25% back. I'll see what comes in writing and speak to the ombudsman but wanted advice first. Thanks in advance.

Can you put a timelines on of insurance dates, payments, holiday dates, cancellation etc.

25% is a very good result.
Generally, there's no refund for insurance, as you've had the benefit of it, which in your case has been for 18 months, for only a 12 month policy.1 -
Hi, we booked holiday for July 2020 and booked 2 weeks holiday insurance from July 19th to August 2nd 2020 but it was cancelled so didn't make use of it then. Transferred holiday to July 19th to August 2nd this year and got in touch with insurance who said no problems they just change the dates to this year. Tui cancelled out holiday a week ago so not going to make use of it this year either so got in touch with company today to be told only 18 quid refund. We've not had use of any insurance as it was specific to the dates given and we haven't been away for them. Thanks0

The insurance both times was for a specific 2 week period both times and both times they were cancelled within 3 weeks of going. So not made use of any of the insurance as for specific dates.0

So it's just the insurance premium that we're talking about here, not the cost of the actual holiday which presumably tui are refunding to you in full? If tui aren't refunding you then you will need to use the insurance to reclaim your money and then not be entitled to any premium being returned to you.

If you broke your leg, had a heart attack, were made redundant or had to cancel the holiday for any insured reason at any time prior to TUI cancelling you would have been able to claim on your insurance.
So how have you not had any benefit?2 -

Tbh now you've explained that I do understand... It's confused me with it being between two specific dates but you're right, if anything would have happened we would have used it... Thanks!0
