We had raised work more than can be seen in the attached was 120sqm of slabs our landscaper charged us around £16k

did have decking as it can be mouse and rat housing

Can you put up a rough sketch of the job?
I'll stick examples up when I get a chance this evening.
Something like this but no fancy curves, to go 1.8m out. for about 15m length. Raised walls to be standard red brickwork or breezeblocks rendered to look the same as the house rather than the giant sandstone bricks in the pic.

raised stone patio edging with plants and barkdust

So much to read, so little time.

I wouldn't use rendering on a retaining wall myself.

I want 1/4 of this area albeit with a raised wall surround and some indwelling steps and ok I might not get it for £4k but its not that far off my expectations.

Sorry, proper paving slabs need 100% support over a well designed & prepared base. Using jacking devices on the corners will see the slabs (especially sandstone) breaking up within a few weeks. The only time where something like that might be suitable is when you have heavy steel reinforced concrete slabs.
I've never used that system myself as I don't really like slabbing anyway, but I know a man who has. I did question him about the problem of a slab breaking, but he said that if there was likely to be a problem you can get ones for the centre of the slab as well as the corners.
So, a variation of the five blobs of mortar.... Doesn't meet the requirements of BS7533 which covers paving. A full bed of mortar or compacted sharp sand is the only way of laying slabs, especially something like sandstone
As I said, never used it myself, but it is becoming more popular now. One advantage is that you don't need to point it up.

I just had existing slabs relaid, patio12 + umpteen around the house and front patio 12 + 3 steps 2 slabs wide, all nicely set and pointed just under £3,000 inc vat. That's just basic concrete slabs but similar to the Indian sandstone.
So I would expect your idea to come in a fair bit over that.
That was by a reputable builder and so glad I did stump up for the real deal. It sets the place off a treat and if I'd known how much difference a good job would make I wouldn't have pfaffed around with the cowboys trying to get it done cheaply.
I've said if I move again it will be the first thing I consider with a view to instant smartness of a house.

Not sure it will look like much in a photograph. The original slabs, all set, 3 (of my 7 drains) set straight. One on the corner was 2" above the rest so leathal and cutting another pavior it would soon have broken again so cut down and set in concrete.
All were angled for water run off and at the front angled so my elderly neighbour could cross another raised drain cover without breaking a leg.
I think I was really lucky to get such a good workman though he looked like it exhausted him.

If I'd know this was going public I'd have mown the grass and tidied up. The odds and ends around the path are my get a round tuit. 37C out the back today.

70 slabs, drains reset, back door step removed to do slabs and replaced, edging at side to widen it. 10 slabs in steps and built up with brick.
I now have an entrance. There wasn't one to the front door. And the steps are set at a height right for the older lady, I told him I had to get down them in high heals :) He even raised the slabs to shorten the step to the block paving at the front door. Mortar betwen slabs makes it look much better than when they were slung together before.
3 days and a call back because one small drain cover was not deep enough in the turf.
The boss came to check at start, half way and after the finish to know if everything was all right.
All I need now is a plumber as thorough.

Ah, that's where we went wrong. Reckon it'll get done next year, assuming materials are available, only 13 years late!
Those hoping for Indian sandstone, go soon; the new Green Regime won't be allowing you those in the future! Personally, I think it's somewhat overrated, but I say the same about Porsche Cayennes.

The human cost is also pretty shocking. (I wouldn't have thought to Google if it wasn't for your post, @Davesnave ).
