Fuel reimbursemente affecting payment

I am looking for help and advice for my colleague, who is in receipt of universal credit.
She sometimes used her own car for work and then claims mileage allowance for the fuel used. She is reimbursed through her pay, although this obviously isn't taxable income. This has meant that the following month her universal credit payment has decreased as the fuel reimbursement has looked like extra pay. She has then effectively paid twice for the fuel. How can she stop this? The UC office have said 'this shouldn't happen' but it IS happening. Any advice?

This suggests that the employer is reporting the payments incorrectly through RTI. How do they appear on her payslips?Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

If she is being paid more than 45p/mile then there will be a taxable element.0
