Now the weather has warmed up, everyone is heading into the garden to enjoy the sunshine.

But when we all get out the jet washer, sprinkler and hose, demand for our drinking water increases and can often cause supply problems.

When it was hot last year, and we were all at home, water usage went up by 40%.

So to help spread our water further and make sure there’s plenty for everyone, we’re asking for your help! When the sun is shining, enjoy it and leave the car, drive and lawn for another day.

What you need to do:

Get your thinking caps on and post your ideas and top tips to Facebook and Instagram - you can send us a photo or video of you demonstrating your idea or top tip, or if you are feeling creative you can show us through a drawing or design (done by hand or on your computer).

Here’s some of our top tips to give you some inspiration:

• Swap the garden hose for a watering can and keep those flowers fed
• Re-use old paddling pool water on your plants or lawn
• Swap the jetwash for a bucket and sponge when cleaning your car
• Put a cover on your paddling pool so you don't have to refill it the next day and it keeps the water clean

If we all make small changes to the way we use water at home, we could save thousands of litres of water, making sure there's enough for everyone during the hot weather!

How to enter

• Upload a photo, video or drawing/design of your top tip to Facebook or Instagram
  
• Include the hashtag #STWaterSavingHero and tell us a bit about your idea/top tip in the description – don’t forget to use the hashtag as this is how we’ll find your entry!
• Tell us your first name and age in the description
  
• Tag us in the post (and follow our page if you’re not already)

Entrants must be 13 years or older when entering the competition online. Entrants under this age must be assisted by a parent / guardian to upload their
entries.
