Hi @elsiepac please count me in for August. I took July off because Mr. Jings and I were busy purchasing our first home together then packing in a frenzy. We’ve moved across country to SW Scotland and the shopping landscape is a bit different here.
The closest shops to us are a mix of M & S, Iceland, Holland & Barrett, and Poundland within walking distance; Tesco, Aldi, B & M and Lidl are in long walking distance/short bus ride in a retail park. I’d like to explore the Aldi and Lidl soon.
Due to using a bunch of convenience food the last month our total for July is currently a shocking £666.56 and hopefully we can keep the total below £685.00 after buying butter, fruit, etc tomorrow on the last day.@elsiepac could you please put us down to £400? OH wants £250 but I think it’ll take some time to reduce it down to that since we’re restocking the kitchen.Have a good weekend all and happy saving!6 -
Hi all and welcome to all newcomers.
@Mrs_Cheshire - yes I am meal planning to try to eat down the contents of the fridge, freezer and larder but with just me it's rather slow going. I used the thyme in a strawberry, feta and puff pastry tart that I posted a photo of in the "what are you making for dinner" thread if you're interested and plan to use the ginger, limes, mangos and pineapple for a hot sauce recipe and have added the coriander to several pittas with home made hummus.
I've a small success to report in that I nipped into my local M*rks a half an hour before they closed to buy milk and found they'd put out a lot of catering 4pt bottles all reduced so I bought five, the maximum I could carry, and have stashed four in the freezer. I'm hoping that will reduce my excuses for not avoiding temptation.
I spent £3.29 so my new total is £14.06/£124 with an average daily spend of £7.03.7 -

Flour duly ordered, 3 x 8Kg packs (all organic) and it's come in under the £47-odd I had left last month. If I need anything else, I can stop into the mill at the end of the month as I'm trading up that way over the bank holiday weekend, but I don't think I'll need to. Now to revive (or re-start) my sourdough starter...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7
