plusnet line rental saver renewal

hi all
i have just had a notice from plusnet that my line rental saver and broadband will be up for renewal in a few weeks time. however, i have also been informed that there is no longer a line rental saver option. i wondered if other members were aware of this and also what the reason was (obviously money!)? i very rarely use the landline but have to have it so i can have broadband, the wireless internet is really crappy, so wired is the only option. further, as there are only 4 isp available in this area, all of which rely on the BT/Openreach decades old equipment, swapping to another isp only carries any problems over to the new isp, so nothing is gained. i wondered if members have found an alternative to plusnet for line rental while staying with them for the broadband service and if so, what the service was like? did doing this split mean increases in the broadband tariff?

i would welcome any responses

many TIA

Yes the line rental saver thing ended last October.  You can't have Plusnet broadband on its own with rental elsewhere, the normal now is internet and line with one provider.

Wireless issues with your router are not ISP specific (as a rule), so if you have a crap wireless signal that's not the provider's responsibility unless you have something like Sky or BT do that "guarantee" (within reason) wireless in all rooms.  If you  have issues with the internet connection itself, that's something you report to the ISP.  Wireless issues (bar above) are for you to resolve, typically by putting the router somewhere else.

If you are on a BT connection then in theory the whole market of internet providers (bar Virgin) is open to you, unless you happen to live in Kingston-Upon-Hull.  If you can only see 4 ISPs you might want to check if you're not filtering everybody else out for whatever reason.

I believe OP is referring to mobile wifi when talking about wireless internet.

Just negotiated an all in deal for fibre plus line rental with PN which is actually slightly cheaper than I paid for the previous 2 years for ALR plus standard discounted broadband. Got weekend and evening calls included as they had been included with ALR.
  • Yet another hidden price hike from Plusnet with an increase based on CPI [NOT CLEAR WHEN THIS IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN AS THERE ARE TWO POTENTIAL INCREASES IN THE PIPELINE].
The real kick in the teeth is the add on of 3.9% also.
Is this something Martin and the team could investigate? It seems policy for so many utility companies now.
What happens if the CPI actually reduces one year: do our bills reduce also?

It would have to go negative as the default increase is 3.9% - as far as I'm concerned these moves to include an automatic above inflation increase SHOULD just drive everyone to negotiate and ,if necessary,,switch asap.
PN increased first bill after June and next year increase is in March !

Problem is with these built in price increases is that unless your end date is around the price increase date you have no leverage for a better deal .Built in increase no Ofcom ruling to get out penalty free .

Come off it sunshine, it's documented in the April one that's the rate the previous January +3.9%, and if the CPI is negative the increase will just be 3.9%.  It's not "hidden".

The most recent June one that took effect June 30th was documented here and is 4.6%:

What is there to investigate?  If you joined up after October 7 last year then you agreed to said hikes, and Sky have had it in their TV clauses for best part of the last decade, it was only a matter of time before everybody else started baking it in.
