Deceased Notices - London Gazette & Local paper

Hi, Just been dealing with an estate of a close relative and I know there are no debts or creditors. I am now at the point where we have probate and wondering if we need to put a 'deceased notice' in the London Gazette. It has nearly been a year since the death and no one has come forward so far. My question is, if we put a notice in the London Gazette, do we also HAVE to put a notice in a local paper, which the Gazette gives you the option to do through, them but it is expensive. Once you add the cost of a PO box, so that no one can see your details (otherwise they will be accessable forever on the Gazette), as well as a local paper, the cost is over £400. If no one has come forward within a year and I'm sure there are no creditors, is doing notices in the Gazette & possibly a local paper necessary at all?

Would the beneficiaries reimburse you if that happened?I knew Dad didn't have any debts so I didn't bother with a notice in the LG.

We haven't bothered 4 times now, for 3 of them I just put the memorial notice in locally.
Depends how confident you are that there are no debts (nothing amongst household paperwork etc to indicate possibility). No secret kids, marriages?
We've been absolutely 100% confident & beneficiaries as well as executors though.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
I opted for just the Gazette at £90ish for some piece of mind. I suspect, it will be a waste of money as no one has come forward but I like the idea of having some protection.I didn’t bother with a notice in the paper.0

We didn't as we were very confident that there would be none. Trust your gut.

After reading this thread, I am wondering if The Gazette is necessary?I have been strongly recommended by solicitor to use her services to advertise in the Gazette. My mother had a simple life, nothing complicated, no hidden secrets, no other marriages involved, no business venture, one small house, no debts and money less than £2000 left in her bank account. We also had all clearance from DWP before probate was granted, nothing was owed and all closed. It has been 6 months since she passed away and by now anyone would have made claims! Can I avoid advertising in The Gazette and the local news for £400 plus Solicitors fees?

Were you the executor? If you were, you can do as you choose.
Who are the beneficiaries? If it's just you, it's almost certainly not worthwhile.Signature removed for peace of mind3
