So I sold my house to a developer as a part of a part exchange deal. We completed and moved out 2 days later 27th October 20 infant.

I've received a letter from LCS saying I owe £345 for energy usage over a period dating 27th oct 2020 to Feb 2021

I told British gas of the move and they closed the account and everything for paid off.

I've recently spoken to britsh gas and they apologised and said ignore the letters from lcs.

I contacted lcs via email stating this to which they want to see the completion statement to prove I sold the house and who to.

I am not comfortable on doing this.

Surely it's for them to prove A I did sell the house and B to find out who bought it.

What is the best course of action to take. I've read a few post about this type of thing and all pretty much say ignore them.

Thanks

    LCS Debt Recovery, to give them their full title.  Not everyone will know this.

    LCS now know that a letter sent to your old address reached you, which won't help to convince them that you have moved.  Hopefully British Gas can do that.

    You could fight/ignore this......
    Or you could just email them the completion statement (or even a letter from the developer saying you part exchanged the above named property on said date", and it will all go away very quickly......i know what I would do.

    If british gas have forwarded your details to the debt collection company it would suggest british gas are screwing everything up for you, given that you say they provided you with a final bill and you paid the balance, so the account was closed. Would be worth setting up a complaint with them, as they could sort the problem out for you.

    A debt collection agency has no further involvement once they have been informed that the alleged debt is disputed.
    Lodge a complaint but don't be surprised if it goes nowhwhere - copying in British Gas ceo might help {matthew.bateman@britishgas.co.uk}
