Regulatory docementation requested by Santander

Santander have called me asking for copies of my P60 for my Pensions (State and Teachers) and for proof of address, which they had when I moved the the last address. I've banked with Santander for around 50 years - originally Abbey National. No-one there seems able to tell me why I should let them have these documents other than calling them 'regulatory documents' and one representative citing GDPR which is only relevant to the EU and was replaced by the UK Data Protection Act 2018 - which is to protect my data and privacy and not giving them the right to ask for these documents. They've told me if I don't let them have the documents within 7 days then they will restrict my account and I'll be unable to access it. I've been out of the UK since March 2020 and haven't been able to get back because of the Covid restrictions so can't even go into a branch (if that's even possible now) to discuss this with them. Anyone else been contacted?

Banks have a responsibility to ensure they have up to date customer details. Know your customer.

    These are constant ongoing matters.

The Data Protection Act 2018 is the UK's implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

You have a choice supply the required documents or they will restrict your account.

Why can you not get back? As there is no stops on people coming back, other than from certain countries you will have to isolate in a hotel as required.
Branches are open, & have been throughout the pandemic.

So from your other thread you are not living in the UK anymore?

Would have been better to just have one thread with the info in as you have missed bits out of both.

  • The country I'm in is a Red Zone so although I can come back I would have to quarantine in a hotel and pay £1750 which, as a pensioner is not money I have or could afford to pay for that. And I have had both doses of the vaccine, given to me free in the country which I'm in so I really can't see why they've not extended the 'no quarantine if you've had both doses' to all countries not just Green and Amber.

Going a bit off topic now but Red indicates much greater risk of being infected with Covid-19 irrespective of your vaccine status.  If you catch Covid you can still infect others even having been vaccinated.  So the Red status shows you would be considered to be more likely to be carrying the virus.
