I have hundreds of slides from way back that havent seen the light of day for 40+ years, nor ever will if I don't find a slide scanner to convert them via my chromebook (Acer Chromebook 14). I one in a shop today (Kenro USB Film & Slide Scanner), but now find via research, that it requires software, but I dont have a CD drive. Surely most laptops and chromebooks don't have cd drives now ? and if that's the case, how do you use their disk?.
Ideally I would like to connect via USB, insert the slide to view, then with a press, send it to google photo's. Is this possible please?.

you may need a PC or laptop.................not a chromebook2

You can buy an external disc drive for only about £12 to connect via USB to your Chromebook.
Or a DVD drive for about £25Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?1 -

Oddly enought, I was preparing the online form to ask this very question, touched a wrong key and lost it, and was about to start again.0 -
That download contains software for PC & Mac, not Chromebook. This may be one of those situations where a chromebook might not hack it. I've got an Acer Chromebook 14 which is fine for most online tasks but I still have to revert to a Windows machine for certain tasks because the software only runs on a PC (eg Audible for sound editing, Adobe DE for ebook borrowing).3

For Chromebook you could use this instead - it can scan direct to SD card which you can then pop in your Chromebook:

OK, that's a pain. But, I know our daughter has stored (in our loft), an old laptop. Tonight I will ask her what make it is and find out if it's usable. Keep an eye open for an update.0

ETA Good luck; It's really fun looking at all the old slides and there will be so much you've completely forgotten.1 -
Also to add; this looks like the present version of my scanner, and pretty much the same. It is very easy to use; I've done hundreds of slides and negatives, including half-frame.
