Both myself and wife have had both vaccines 1 and 2.  Could anyone explain why we cannot use the card provided by the NHS as proof of this?

There is no secure  information on them so they could be changed or copied.

Thanks for replies - so why were they given out?

  • Belt and braces I think - just in case there were any issues with the electronic record keeping

For the same reason that patients are (can) be given appointments cards/letters as well as electronic confirmation

I presumed it was both as an easy reference to hand as to which vaccine / batch you had had in case of any side effects, and also as a reminder of when your second vaccine was going to be if you booked both at the same time. I've just looked and mine didn;t (and still doesn't) actually have my name filled in on it, so if it was accepted as proof, anyone could use it.

I could copy and print one of those cards in a few minutes, then write on whatever I wanted, so it is completely ineffective to prove anything.

They were for admin purposes with the NHS staff, they were never intended as a vaccination passport, that function exists within the app.

As a helpful record to the person jabbed to help them remember when they were jabbed first and then if they took it to the second jab, then it was a reminder of which vaccine they had.

They are useful as a personal record and also for the vaccine staff. It’s a double check on what vaccine you had first time. As a vaccine admin bod it means I can talk to the patient and start some vaccine questions at the same time as I am entering their name in the system.
In fact, at some centres they have produced labels that are stuck on the cards with QR codes for date of birth and NHS number. A quick zap and the patient can be identified on the computer. Even without QR readers, having a patient’s name written down can be easier that trying to hear difficult spelt names from someone speaking behind a mask, particularly if they are quiet talkers or heavy accents.
