Pre-Xmas DVD sales: 3 for £15 on new DVD titles online and in-store

What's the deal?

There's a spate of 3 DVDs for £15 offers around at the moment, while this isn't that unusual, what is rare is chart DVDs are included.
  • Three for £15 inc. chart films at Play.com

Play.com* is running a three for £15 DVD sale on a massive range of films (around 1500). This includes 11 of the top 50 chart DVDs within the sale, including Pan's Labyrinth, Casino Royale and Little Miss Sunshine. If you don't want three, they're mostly listed at £5.99 each.

Delivery is free on everything at Play, but you'll need to set up an account if you've never shopped there before.
  • Three for £15 at Amazon

Amazon's* also offering a three for £15 deal on DVDs. It's not as varied as Play's, but it's worth a look if you plan to buy other things there too. As ever, super saver delivery is available for free on any order over £15.
  • Two for £7 at DVD.co.uk.

Bargain DVD retailer DVD.co.uk is running a 2 for £7 sale on selected titles. As you may imagine, many of those selected aren't that good, but there are a choice few that might make good gifts, such as Mean Girls, Jarhead and What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

There are 2 for £10 and 2 for £12 deals too, but play.com's sale's better at this price point.

The site's also offering many kids films at knockdown prices, including the Shrek 1 & 2 box set for £7.95 delivered.
  • Three for £15 in-store at Sainsbury and Asda

If you want to buy instore, supermarkets ASDA and Sainsbury's are also doing 3 for £15 deals in a bid to get more customers through the doors this Christmas, though they have a more limited range than Play.

That's not to say their deals don't include some popular recent releases too though; here's a few available at both (as well as Play):

Hot Fuzz,Casino Royale, Blood Diamond, Last King Of Scotland, Eragon, Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Rocky Balboa, Saw 3
Spotted an offer that should be listed here? Post it below and I'll add it in.

Anything else I should know?

Go at the right time, and you can get your 3 DVDs giftwrapped for free in-store at ASDA (if you bought them there) until Dec 23. Read more

  • I use www.find-dvd.co.uk ...... a really useful comparison site that finds the cheapest retailer for any DVD or CD.
They don't list one of the cheapest options though which is www.bangcd.com who are currently selling Top 20 CDs for £6.99 (and a few for £5.99)!

Merry Christmas ..... save money ..... not the planet.

    STOP PRESS!!!!

Just looked at the www.bangcd.com site ... and for 24 hours only they are reducing most CDs by a further £1. All CDs must be ordered on 12th December to qualify ... and while stocks last.

  • Cheers this is a very good sale IMO. Ordered 4!
The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.
  • On the subject of DVDs, I discovered yesterday that Sainsbury's are doing the brand-new Simpsons Movie DVD for £8.97 (and it came out Monday!) Both Amazon and Play list this as £11.99 and the RRP is £19.99, so it's a very good deal. :)
  • The DVD.co.uk 2 for £7 offer actually has some good titles in there especially if you are into musicals. There's also quite a few fitness DVD's in there too and a few good old horrors. I could easily find a few I would want to buy so is well worth a look.

  • I was really annoyed with Amazon, I bought lots of stuff, all in stock as far as I could see, but when I got to checkout there was a big message saying my goods would arrive after 25 December. This was on 6th December!

I went straight to Play.com, where all except one of the items were cheaper, and they have delivered the goods already.

Bye bye , Amazon, you've lost a customer!
  • I was in asda this afternoon and as part of thier 3 for 15 offer included the naked gun trilogy and if I remember correctly the blade trilogy. I didn't have time to look for any other deals but at this rate you could have 9 for £15

Most supermarkets do a 5 day special on newly released DVD films.the cheapest I have seen the Simpsons Movie in store now is at morrisons for £9.99.

When a film is released make sure to check out one or two of the main super stores (Asda, Tesco & Morrisons) as they drop the price of newly released films by anything upto £5 - £8. Pirates of the Caribean was only £8.84 at Asda on release, Shrek Third was only £8.48.

Also if you search the DVD shelves at asda you will come across a few DVD's marked up as 3 for £10, but I only managed to find one with the sticker on at my local asda.

So the moral of this story is??

buy your films on or close to release as possible. Most stores compete for the lowest price on newly released films, so shop around and see who has it cheapest. I've always relied on Asda as I live across the road from the Barnsley store.

On a side note and not quite as cheap, HMV have a 3 for £20 offer which includes a lot of boxed sets. So if you get 3 Boxed sets, this makes it a bargain offer.
