Mattress doesn't fit cotbed

In October 2020 I bought a Mamas & Papas Oxford cotbed and M&P mattress from BabyPlanet, online by credit card. Baby wasn't born until January 2021 so didn't need the cot until April. When we tried the mattress in the cot it was too tight a fit and wrinkled at one end. At this stage the mattress was still wrapped but when we contacted BabyPlanet they told us we were out of time to return it. Their website states this cotbed needs a 139x69 mattress but M&P do not make one this size. On a telephone call with M&P they said their sizes had been updated and an email stated 'All of our Mattress’s are currently compatible with our Oxford Cot Bed'. These statements make me believe that we have been supplied with a pre-updated cotbed and an updated mattress but I cannot prove this. Both I and BabyPlanet have contacted M&P who state that this size difference is 'within acceptable limits'.
This is not a cheap cotbed and mattress and it does not seem acceptable to me that the mattress has to be forced in, resulting in a wrinkle. Please can anyone suggest where, if anywhere, I can get advice?

Did the website list the size of both the mattress and cotbed?
Regardless of what sizes they do sell, if they list the size of each on the product page I can't see that you have much of a leg to stand on.0 -
The problem is that you got advice from one company and then bought from another so you cannot criticise the vendor for the wrong advice.
Nothing you are saying suggests that the vendor has made any breach of contract... in the future, ensure you ask the vendor the questions.1 -
There are expert witnesses who deal with faults with furniture. One of these would probably give you some advice as what acceptable tolerances would be.
For a Children's Cot, the mattress should not be undersized as it might allow a baby to get a foot or arm caught in the frame. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
I'm not sure the OP did say that they knew it was the wrong size.
They said that they knew that the cot needed a mattress that was 139x69 (cm) but they didn't say what size mattress they actually bought. If they bought one that was advertised as 139x69 then it should fit in the cot.
The OP says they bought an M&P mattress AND that they know that M&P didn't make a mattress that size, so I ca see why you think they bought a mattress that was not correct, but they didn't say what size the mattress they bought was advertise as, or why they bought that particular mattress - did the retailer somehow suggest or indicate that this mattress was the correct mattress for the cot?
