bought split tickets without realising (trainline) what happens if first train delayed?

So... i researched a train journey from Southampton to Bedford on thetrainline website... found the service i wanted, but then decided to install their app on my phone, so as to be ready for immediate updates etc.
I noticed that the journey was about £15 cheaper on the app... and decided to buy it. There were a a few informational messages about split ticketing, but i'm new to such things and thought i was just getting a discounted ticket.
Having read the restrictions in the email i received after booking, i'm now a little concerned about what happens if my first leg to waterloo runs a little late (not uncommon)
I've read some advice in this forum that if delayed you can get on the next train.... but in my case I have a nominal 52 minutes between arrival in Waterloo and Departure from StPancras... and have a few tube connections to make - so it could be quite debatable as to whether i miss the StPancras connection via deleay or just a bad combination of tube stops and confusion on my part...
Any reassurance as to what's acceptable to the ticket collector?
p.s. the tickets are 2 "advance single - specified train only, no refunds"
Thanks.

Waterloo to KingsX/StPancras will take you no more than 20 minutes - Bakerloo Line, change Oxford Circus cross platform, Victoria line to KX. Plenty of time unless your incoming train is seriously delayed.
ps does the split ticket include the tube fare? I suspect not. A straight through ticket would include the tube.

Thanks for the tube directions and time estimate.
Actually the tube section is included. I get 3 tickets.
If the inbound train is ontime i intend to walk it.  it's about 2.5 miles and i'm reasonably sure i can do that in 45 minutes. I'd prefer the exercise, and a break from mask wearing.

I'm still not sure what happens if I'm properly delayed.... but I guess i can worry about that when it happens.

Is this this week? You won't (hopefully) need a mask next week. Nice walk, but I suspect 45 minutes is a bit optimistic. There are also buses, direct to Euston then walk, but of course buses can get stuck in traffic. Have fun.

I can walk fast (albeit not racing to avoid getting too hot) and can do the 1.2 miles from the train station to my office in around 17-18min, I wouldn't gamble on 45 minutes to do 2.5 miles when you don't know the route and could easily get lost and still need to get to the train (allowing for ticket barriers, queues, early door closing). Even at 4mph walking pace it's still ~ 38 minutes in perfect conditions without needing to stop for lights etc. You'd need to average 5mph to do it in 30 minutes which is still cutting it fine.

Thanks both.  i think you're right.  this is doable for someone who knows the route, but it's been a few years since i used waterloo station. I'll probably compromise and walk across jubilee bridge to Embankment station (as long as I'm very much on time).

Why bother, Bakerloo line from Waterloo goes through Embankment at its next stop and Circle line from there will take ages... If you do want to do some walking why not take the Northern line to Euston, St Pancras is an easy walk along Euston Road.

Still need masks on the tube and London buses after the 19th. Just waiting for TfL to announce it.

Walking through central London can be slow even if you know the way.  You endlessly have to wait at junctions for the lights to change or for a gap in the traffic which drastically reduces the average speed.

t0rt0ise:  As you predicted snnounced this morning (and a good thing too imho)

If the OP's train is drastically late, (s)he can ask staff at Waterloo to endorse the ticket so that it can be shown at St Pancras for a later train.

Good advice I'm sure... but being from the provences i still get a kick out of walking across the thames with houses of parliament etc. in the background... which is what i did yesterday.

That makes sense - although if i was just moderately late i'd probably be running for the tube, and wouldn't want to wait.

yes... and it took be about 10 minutes to find my way from the bottom of kings cross to the correct EMR platfrom at St Pancras too, which is another thing i hadn't planned for.

I know this was all very minor stuff in the context of the times we're living in, but thank you - I had a very pleasant journey!
