Car Insurance and DVLA restricted license illness

My insurance needs renewing. I have a license that shows it expired on 17/12/20 which is medically restricted. I got a form from DVLA in October 2020 , which I completed.
In February 2021 I got a letter saying my consultant had missed out some data on the form he filled in and they were sending the form back to him. On 23/4/21 I finally got confirmation from the consultant' s secretary that he had sent and faxed his reply. Whoopee! Since then I've heard nothing.
As I understand it my license should have been extended for 11 months, because of covid. Expired driving licences automatically extended by 11 months - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
I also understand that section 88 of RTA allows for someone with a medical condition to drive for up to a year pending medical enquiries, if supported by doctor(s)
inf188x6-can-i-drive-while-my-application-is-with-dvla.pdf (publishing.service.gov.uk) My consultant and GP have no concerns.
However when I put my driving license number into one of the online insurance search sites, I got 'license expired, contact DVLA' and couldn't progress a search. I changed to a different site and failed to give my driving license details and got some quotes.
1) How come the insurance search site failed to recognise the DVLA extension and can anything be done about it?
2) Can anyone tell me what date I can legally drive to, assuming car insurance quote and payment accepted, if I still haven't had a reply by DVLA? Would it be 17/11/21 or October 2021?
Any suggestions welcome
