Hi, I am looking to getting a new bathroom suite fitted. At the same time I would like electric underfloor heating.
Currently the floor is floor boards. Do I need insulation boards or tile backer board?

Others will come along to help shortly - but from what I have been told by a neighbour who had a dry UFH system installed in his wetroom, he barely uses it as its so expensive to run. This is a chap that is not adverse to spending money on fripperies.
If you're having a new suite fitted, you have a gas supply and the floors are coming up, why not have a wet system?

You will need 6/10mm rigid insulation boards on top of your floorboards with the heating mat on top - latex screed over to cover.
I tend to use the Rayotec systems, just installed one in my bathroom a couple of months ago. They also sell the rigid insulation boards - these get tacked down to the floorboards, and the mat is taped onto these.
Mine runs for 2 hrs in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. It's 3.5m2 of mat, costs about 30p a day to run. It doesn't run when the room is warm enough.3 -
Thank you.
I was looking at these, are they ok?

Good point about being electric UFH compatible.

Underfloor heating store is a great place to get everything you might need or ar least it was when I installed UFH in my bathroom a couple of years ago.
If you get a programmable thermostat then you can set it up so the floor heating is on only when you need it.
If I'm honest I have never looked at the running costs as it's just something that I wouldn't want to be without and I feel the cost is negligible compared to loads of other expenses. Unless you've got a very large bathroom I wouldn't worry about it.0
