Burns caused my fire spitting out 4 years 1 Month tenancy

My landlord has complained about small carpet burns where the log burner spat out on his inspection. It was put down May 2017 so that’s 4 years & 1 month. The fire and carpet were there when the OP moved in. They accepted the property in that condition, and have a duty to return it in reasonable condition.

There are several cheap and easy ways to prevent the damage that has occurred... If it IS a woodburner, and they've been using it with the door open, then the damage is entirely down to their own misuse of the stove...
