FTB - Moved in... Now what?

I've said it before and I'll say it again. WHY don't schools teach you this?!

I've recently moved into my very first home and am currently on cloud 9. I can't believe I've managed it. It's not been without it's stresses but they do say, moving is one of the most stressful things you'll ever do... Anyway!...

Any help and advice on what to do next would be greatly received. So far I have:

Booked a slot for Broadband set up,
Set up an online account with the local council (to pay my council tax),
Spoken to the water company who have created an account and set a direct debit up,
Switched electricity supplier (to a cheaper one),

The one I'm not sure on is gas.
The house has one of those prepay meters in with a 'top-up' card for gas (card left behind by previous owner).
I do not want this and so I called USwitch who set me up with a new gas provider but have been told that it's also a prepay deal.
Do I need to call my new supplier and tell them I just want a fixed monthly rate?

Is there anything else that needs doing as a FTB (utility wise).

Thanks very much.

Get yourself an expanding box file, keep all your important paper documents in it and then everything is in one place.

Hope you registered with the existing gas and electric suppliers before trying to switch.

Update every financial institution, store card, loyalty card, PayPal, any sites you buy from.

You need to call the current provider and put the account with the supplier into your name.  They will send you a new card.

If you don't do this you will be paying off any debt on the meter and will be paying on the former tenants account.

Once this is done you can change supplier.

You must do this. So many people have a lidable issues because they didn't register in their name and just topped up someone else's card.

Once you have registered this call you new supplier that you intend to switch to and ask for quarterly meters. They may decline or they may charge you.

Thanks but I won't be watching BBC or iPlayer.

If you watch TV programmes live on any online TV service, including Amazon Prime Video, Now TV, ITV Hub or All 4, you need to be covered by a TV Licence.

You don’t need a TV Licence if you only ever use online services to watch on demand or catch up programmes, except if you’re watching BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer.

Remember, if you watch or record TV programmes live on any channel or TV service, or download or watch any BBC programmes on BBC iPlayer, you need to be covered by a TV Licence.
