A Pre-departure PCR test is required for green and amber countries. Is this referring to departure on the return flight from abroad or from the UK?

So based on your comment on traffic lights you are thinking of the test you need before setting off on your return to the UK. This doesn't have to be a PCR test.

The UK doesn't care what you do before you leave on your outward leg but some countries may require test results before you leave and this may well be a PCR test.

This is Ryanair's offer and it doesn't specify whether departure is from UK or abroad

    Green Travel Pack
Now only £86 with discount code
    1 x pre-departure PCR test
    1 x Day 2 PCR test pack
    Buy pack

For the Day 2 test pack, this is after the return flight but it is not specified whether outward or return for the pre-departure test

Firstly, you don't need a PCR test to enter the UK, any appropriate accurate test is acceptable. Secondly, do you think Ryan Air has agreed PCR tests in every country they fly from at the same price without asking you in advance if its for the return to the UK?

So it's a pre-departure UK PCR test then? i.e. taken before you leave the UK on your outward flight.

I don't work for Ryan Air but thats what my assumption would be and therefore is relevant for countries requiting PCR tests before entering them

A PCR test requires a lab to process the test which is obviously an issue when travelling abroad. Looking at their website it is Randox sponsored who guarantee next day results etc. With that said, my presumption is this is before leaving the UK.

Keep in mind you must still take a covid test (PCR or lateral flow) before entry back into the UK so you'll need to purchase this also.

I assume that this is not the same as the Day 2 PCR test pack which makes up the Green Travel Pack and therefore 3 X PCR tests are required in total.

Hi, regarding the day 2 test after return from a Green country, it's better to err on the side of caution and order a PCR test. I cannot see in the regulations meant for the public on the uk.gov website an express requirement for a PCR test for an (up to day 2) test on returning from a Green country.  What is mentioned is a Covid test.

    You need the following tests:

    1) Outbound test specific to your destination country. Each country has different requirement such as: test type, time between test and departure, time between test and arrival, no test required etc.

    2) PCR or lateral flow test up to three days before departing for the UK.

    3) A booked Day 2 PCR test which must be booked prior to flying back to the UK. This is also crucial as it’s inserted into your passenger locator form and you’ll be denied boarding without this and a negative test result.

Might be worth reaching out to Ryanair on a platform such as Twitter

Or LAMP test or a host of other options... different countries have different options

    The actual requirement is:
The test must meet performance standards of ≥97% specificity, ≥80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.

Plus then evidence of the test result with prescribed information around date of sample etc.
