Supplements for older cats

Options
One of our cats had a routine check recently. We were told she's in very good health but they suggested we consider a supplement to help keep her joints moving well. A search afterwards shows a  lot of choice! Does anyone have any recommendations for something that is both good, and good value? She is aged about 14-16 years. Thanks.

What works for one cat will not necessarily work for another.  It is very much a case of trial and error to find what owrks.

Our vet recommended Yumove for our cat who had a few joint problems.  The capsules could be opened and the contents mixed with food. Our fussy madam didn't seem to mind!

The problem is that she doesn't seem to have any particular problem at the moment, so I'm not sure how I'd know if it's working! Though if she eats it ok that would be a good start...
  • Highly recommend Yumove as well. We noticed our elderly cat was getting a bit of dandruff on her lower back. Yumove cleared it up straight away and her coat was super shiny. Plus gave her a spring in her step with her joints. Mine wouldn't have any salmon oil in food but ate the Yumove sprinkled ontop.

Maybe try mixing in some high quality wet food as well which tend to have supplements. I found zooplus good for cheap for good quality food and trial packs.

On YouTube there is videos on caring for an elderly cat by excellent vet called the helpful vancouver vet. Very good tips especially on how to brush an elderly cat.

Mine loves just cheap sardines or left over salmon - full of nice fish oils!!  Yumove was NOT approved of at all!!

As others have said - different cats like different things.

We ended up ordering an Animigo glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. No idea if it's helping as she is a bit poorly from a bout of cystitis.... but at least she eats it!
