Newbie question: How much is 1 cubic foot gas in kWh in NW3 postcode?

I don't have access to my energy bills, but based on my meter readings I wanted to know what the kWh value of 1 cubic foot of gas is in postcode nw3? Supplier is Avro.

i looked on national grid's website but couldn't find the calorific value of gas ( which I think you need.).

When i I do an energy comparison does the kWh usage have to be EXACT I.e  to the exact kWh or can I round it up by +/- 10kWh? Thank you and apologies for so many questions today.

It's about 31kWh which would probably cost around 90p.
However, you would have to know the cost per kWh on your tariff which is shown on the bill (don't forget to add 5% VAT).  There would also be a daily charge, often called a standing charge.
This site will do the basic calculation for you (scroll down about a third of the page and use the left side).  You just have to enter the cost per kWh to get a reasonably accurate value.  Don't worry about the calorific value: this varies a bit over time depending on how 'dilute' or 'concentrated' the gas is at any given time.
Note that 1 unit on the meter actually corresponds to 100 cubic feet, but you don't need to worry about that.  The calculation is done automatically when you send your meter readings, so you just send the figure shown by the meter, ignoring any decimal places or any number or dial that is red.
When comparing, the annual consumption doesn't have to be exact.  You won't know how much you've used until afterwards because you'll use more if it's cold, you turn the wick up or are at home more.  Just use the amount you've used over the last 12 months, perhaps tweaking it a bit if you expect it to be different in the next 12 months (e.g. no longer working at home).
The average gas consumption is about 12,000kWh per year.
  • Gas has different energy densities in different post codes?
  • I always do three comparisons for gas. Firstly, one based on my annual consumption in KWhs followed by two comparisons based on annual consumption + then - 10%. Occasionally, I will get different suppliers for each comparison , and a judgement then has to be made. As a CH gas user, I lean towards a supplier with a high standing charge and low unit price.

Yes, it varies according to your Local Distribution Zone.
The OP is in the North Thames LDZ(NT) area and yesterday's value was 38.8.

You need to get access to your energy bills. Avro's website is
    https://my.avroenergy.co.uk/sign-in
If the account has been set up with your email address, you can use the Forgotten Password function.
If there is no on-line account set up you could send an email to support@avroenergy.co.uk with your name and address, account number, and/or meter serial number, and ask them to create an online account for you.
There should be no problem doing this if you are the named account holder.
