Bear in mind that those switches require a neutral wire inside the wall back-box. Most UK houses do not have that.330d said:Just going back to my original question. I have found some smart switches which look well priced - https://www.moeshouse.com/collections/eu-smart-switch/products/wifi-smart-light-switch-push-button-smart-life-tuya-app-remote-control-works-with-alexa-google-home-for-voice-control-2-gang
So I am now thinking of getting these instead of the smart bulbs. They are about the same price and more importantly do the job that I am looking for which is remote turn on/off.
There are other switches available that do not require a neutral wire.
This is a classic home automation issue.

My house is currently being renovated and as part of that it is being rewired and therefore will have neutral wires behind the light switches.1 -

However they will not control nice things like colour or dimming, you may get some bad dimming but the bulb need to be the one doing it on led for anything. So for anything fgood the switch would still need to talk to the bulb, in which case why bother with a smart switch. But go with whichever solution you prefer.

A former colleague has replaced all his switches with these but only strategically changed bulbs for smart ones, so has somewhat the best of both worlds. One button press (in this case on a remote control) turns off the 30 or so downlighters in the ceiling that are trad GU10, turns off the various table lights that are on the mains rings, sets to side lights to warm 5% light and puts the TV bias backlighting on to the appropriate brightness and colour (it also turns on the TV, amplifier and other home entertainment gizmos etc)0
