Financial Ombudsman is a waste of time

It does work, but as mentioned with the huge volume of complaints referred to them over the last few years, aligned with the obvious issues over the past year or so, they’re experiencing very long delays. It could be that they’re low in case handlers for your type of complaint so it’s taking longer than others.

it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y

their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'

So I did and agree with earlier writrers they are a waste of space. And it might be that the courts are the only altenative at present, but why does Martin recommend a service that provides no service? Instead he could put his weight behind having a service that does work.

If they are shor tof handle r s there is such a thing as recruitment and they have had a year to do it . If they had rejected my clain it would have meant they had taken the trouble to look at it.Sorry guys this is not a service let alone a user friendly service.I whol;eheartedly agree with the other comments on here, they are crop.Just wonder why you all want to defend something that is clearly as useless as a chocolate fireguard.0 -
You have every right to take it to court, crack on with that and let us know how that goes for you.helpful tips

If they are shor tof handle r s there is such a thing as recruitment and they have had a year to do it .Have you tried recruiting staff and training them to the required level during a pandemic?
What do you do with all the extra staff when the backload is finished? Not very customer friendly when they don' t handle the customers cases in a decent time.If you think the FOS are slow, then try the courts.Just wonder why you all want to defend something that is clearly as useless as a chocolate fireguard.Because some of us live in the real world.

Even the Institute of Economic Affairs says"The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is unfit for purpose. It is failing to deliver on its primary objectives of “providing fair and reasonable resolution of disputes at speed” and “providing value for money and supporting competition and consumer welfare”. https://iea.org.uk/media/financial-ombudsman-service-needs-major-reform-says-new-research/At speed, what a joke.the real wo rld is that they are failing in their basic duties that they are funded for and also that there is no regulator to the FO, what happened to transparency?

The IEA is a right wing think tank which is pro-business to the extent it supports abolishing the NHS. Of course they are against a pro-consumer rights group that helps the little guy fight against businesses
Again, the FOS is swamped with cases thanks to PPI, packaged bank accounts etc driven by a CMC-led culture of people trying to get money for nothing. They aren't failing anything, they're working as fast as they can, you can't just create experienced case workers out of thin air. They received 116,241 enquiries and 78,729 new cases just in Q1 this year, on top of 197,742 new cases for the last 3 quarters of 2020.
After the adjudicator has looked at a complaint, you can refer them to the actual ombudsman team or you can complain about the FOS to their independent regulator.
What do you expect a right wing Tory government to change about the FOS except weaken it to make it harder for people to complain to their donors?5 -
Seems to me it would be better to have nothing than something that presents as help and does nothing, at least one knows where one stands.dunstonh said:If they are shor tof handle r s there is such a thing as recruitment and they have had a year to do it .Have you tried recruiting staff and training them to the required level during a pandemic?
