EON Dual Fuel - DD increase.

Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me
I pay a DD of £61p/m to Eon for dual fuel. Since the installation of our smart meter at the beginning of May they've written advising this needs to and will be increasing to £200p/m from 01/08. (More than tripling?!?!)
Our smart meter history since its installation at the beginning of May is saying around the weekly average that I would have thought the £61 covers - 61÷28x7=£15.25. Some weeks are slightly over (£15.54, £15.67, £16.80) and some under (£13.61, £14.70, £14.82 etc...).
I'm happy to pay slightly more so there's a buffer, but from £61 to £200?!
I moved in in October and have paid them £549 so far, my exact annual amount from setting up escapes me but I think it was £800-something p/a, which I was happy with (this was via MSE credit club switch service).
They've also tried to call me a few times but I've been at work, I cancelled my DD before I realised it was increasing from 01/08 incase they took £200 last week instead of the £61 so need to call them tomorrow.
Historically I've not had a very good experience with their rude CS operators so I want to have a bit more of an idea before I phone them back.
I had problems when submitting my exit readings for my previous rented house, they sent a closing statement with the readings I'd given the wrong way round and when I called for them to be amended they told me they couldn't have been right the other way round as the Elec was lower than the last reading Morrisons Utility had taken, and still wouldn't accept when I sent them the photos I'd taken of the meters on the last night at the house (also timestamped). They said if they swapped them round and entered it "correctly" then I'd owe them a massive amount of money so it was in my interest to not push the matter any further.
As they weren't asking for any additional money and the absolute headache I'd had up to that point, I let it go and continued with the cheapest tariff which was with them for my new house and gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Sorry for the long one, I'm good at alot of things and numbers but not when it comes to energy - no idea how to work out my usage or what I should be paying so don't feel I'm armed with any facts.
I want to avoid a horrible argument with them, but i'm obviously happy to challenge and dig my heels in - going from £61 to £200 can't be right surely? 😬
TIA you lovely bunch!

It may be that Eon now has accurate figures and what you have is a huge catch up bill. Look back over your last bills do you see lots of E's against the meter readings ? Have you been reading your meters at least monthly ?
It may be that you are actually in debt and Eon in raising your DD is trying to ensure that you don't owe anything come October.
During the summer you should expect to be building up credit ready for the Winter. Starting in October as your did you had no such credit and by the end of Winter you may have a considerable debt. Look ay the bottom line on your bills.
Please forget £'s - what is important is actual consumption.
Check first that your bills are showing the meter change correctly - check the serial numbers of the meters themselves - (the ones in an outdoor meter box or garage - not the IHD toy in the kitchen) - check the meter reading on the bill agrees with the stickers left on the meters - are these meter reads in agreement with your own readings ?
On the gas meter look for m3 - what does the bill say cu ft or m3 ?
How did you assess the annual consumptions you gave to Eon when you moved in ? How does your annual consumption to date compare with your estimate. For a gas heated house your £61 does sound low.
Your old house should have nothing to do with your new one unless you tried to take your Eon supply with you and that is often a recipe for tears. At your new house did you give the previous supplier meter reads when you moved in? and the then switch to |Eon and give them reads when they asked.?
PS Dual fuel is generally not the cheapest option these days. When did you last use a comparison site ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
@xx_mstilda_xx Thinking a bit more I suggest this is simply that your DD has been too low - that £61 should have been £90
Typical Elec 3000kWh @ 15p is £450 - add standing charges and VAT gives (approx) £550 ie £50 a month
Typical Gas 10000kWh @3p is £300 - add standing charges and VAT gives (approx) £400 is £30 a month
total £80
and we've been at home more, this winter has been cold and many have kept their heating on so £90 or £100 . That's £1200 a year
You will have paid 9 months at £61 = £550 plus (till October) 3 months at £200 = £1150Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
