Double Glazing CR Smith

Hi

We've used CR Smith to provide sliding sash double glazing for our house. However when the installers arrived the windows were not the same as those shown to us by the salesman. Only three windows were installed in one room on 15th June 2021 before we told them to stop. The installation manager and salesman visited and both confirmed they had never seen this style of window before.

Although they have comeback with a reduced quote we're still not happy as they don't match what was shown to us. Their email also mentioned taking advice from solicitors etc.

My question is do we have grounds to walk away from the contract and how do we start this procedure?

Much Appreciated
Uggles

Have they said that they can absolutely no longer install what you were shown/sold? Just thinking that, if they can, the path of least resistance may be for them to supply what you were shown/sold & agreed to (incl. replacing what they have already fitted).

Did the installation manager and salesman say they had never seen the window they installed or the window they showed you when you agreed to the order . Either way it smells like B.S . What is the big difference between then and now In the frame and would you have agreed to order this window given the choice now ? . Pics would really help if possible

    Not much help here.

My daughter got her windows replaced by CR Smith about 5yrs ago. Absolute cowboys I have never seen such shoddy work.
She wanted the same width facing around the window approx 6inch, they overlapped 2 pieces of wood to make it up to the width, not very nice to look at & was not explained at time of order.

Also at her front door she has a light switch, they also put a box around the whole door as a type of architrave but boxed over half of her light switch so 1 side of the switch was hidden(no access to the removal screw if switch needed replacing).

I told them to stop several times during installation to rectify all the issues.

Never use CR Smith, quality of windows are also pretty poor.

  • Thanks all. See pic below. The upper sash slides down using the black channels you can see here. When we had the zoom call with the salesman the samples he used and picture from their website didn't have these. Neither salesmane or installation manager had seen this before and we have them on an audio recording confirming this. Yesterday we noticed they'd updated their website to include pics like this. We've now written to them advising we're rejecting the goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Will see what they come back with but potentially they could be left with 20 windows which only fit our house.

Have you got a copy of their contract which I assume they got you to sign showing what they would be doing?
  • Yes contract just says white wiindows. Of course doesn't go into specifics of these channels but they were not what was shown to us at point of agreement

I don't care about C R Smith . They're big boys in a greedy market of big boys . I am unsure if they manufacture the box sashes . I doubt it . Small market to make new lines to make these , If it was me and my company that have turned these away because the inner profile is black not white , A, I wouldn't be a happy bunny . B, You are not being reasonable about this , C. I have seen these black inners before due to the sashes moving up and down they cause friction and leave a black marks . I cant even think if my supplier has black or white inners because its not a big deal so long as they are all the same . D. I hope they refuse your rejection but come to a acceptable conclusion between you and themselves E. the profile and beads have co extruded gaskets both black I really cannot understand what your beef is with this . F. C R Smith are a big firm but may buy local from a small firm that specialises in box sashes . That's a big chunk of cash to be hit with if returned . Sorry I'm blunt but no apologies for being honest with this . What are you hoping to get from this I expect a 20/30k job ?

Is that a black clip in system and can it come out ? Unless its a thermal break I cant work out how they can make a white profile with a black channel . If its a thermal break then you have a top of the range profile and frame . If its a clip in system to stop the friction and marks rubbing up and down then they can come out . Then you can complain about the black marks rubbing up an down no doubt.
