Hi All,

Might be a dumb question, can I assume that once we've exchanged contracts that it would then be safe for me to order things like sofa, bed/matress using credit or would it still be advised to wait until completion to do this?

Cheers.

EDIT: Question answered. Thanks for the help.

No it wouldn't be safe to order things on credit after exchange, that's a material change of circumstances and would have to be reported to the lender.

Wait until completion or pay cash.

Wait for the day of completion, safer, unless your paying cash or a cash buyer

If you're ordering furniture with a long lead time, with some retailers you can pay a deposit in cash, and once you have completed the house purchase you can convert the purchase to the credit/finance option. We did this recently with DFS - we paid a 10% deposit cash for our sofas (12-14 week lead time), and once we completed the purchase we ended up paying off the balance (paying for it via credit/finance was an option but we saved money elsewhere and decided it was easier just to pay the purchases off).
