HSBC Credit Card

I took out an HSBC credit card through the MSE site which offered £25 cashback after meeting the criteria of £100 spend.  Does the cashback come from MSE or HSBC as the bank doesn't appear to know anything about it?

Normally this comes out of the marketing budget which is why the front line staff know nothing about it. Marketing pay MSE a referral fee (or sometimes a middleman) and then that money is split as the £25 to go to you and MSE pockets the rest.

A quick Google is your friend :-) Applied  to your account after 60 days

  • Over 60 days and still no sign of the £25.  No help whatsoever from the on-line chat and it's impossible to get through on the telephone.  Thank goodness I don't have a bank account with them.  I soon won't have a credit with them either!
  • I would read the Ts & Cs about closing the account, they might have some claw back rights if you close soon after opening once you had the bonus
  • Same here after meeting the criteria...HSBC on their 'live chat' said it was down to MSE even though I pointed out that the T&C's were from HSBC. Doesn't seem massively easy how to chase this up. My 60 days were 2 days ago so will give it a bit longer then cancel the card...
  • My cashback is now well overdue and, despite hassling HSBC via chat and phone, I don't expect I'll get the £25.  As I don't appear to be the only one with this problem, it might be an idea for comparison websites to add a warning before unsuspecting people go through their sites expecting to gain a small bonus!

"HSBC's 29mths 0% deal (2.75% fee)* is the joint-longest 0% period, and also gives accepted newbies £25 cashback if they apply before next Tuesday and shift £100+ in the first 60 days."

Did anybody get the £25? My 60 days was up in October, no sign of money in the account.
  • I eventually received the £25, but I had to spend a lot of time telephoning, emailing and sending on-line messages before HSBC finally accepted that I should have received the cashback and sent me an apologetic letter.  A lot of hassle, but I'm retired so have plenty of spare time :)
  • Im in th same boat. I've chased a few times via online chat and have been fobbed off a few times. I've not had a chance to try calling but will try that soon.
I'll likely cancel my credit card soon whether they pay out or not. It seems really deceitful to offer cashback to lure in new customers but then just not pay out.
