Just a little update - I have just spoken to Grundig and they agree in principle that it's up to them to resolve the issue, but have also stated that they have contractual agreement with Currys to provide replacements when an uplift number is provided. They have generated a new uplift number which should cover the product for the full five years of warranty (standard 3 years + 2 years extended), and told me to give Currys this new uplift number and if there is a problem with a replacement then for Currys to call them directly. I have spoken to Currys after speaking to Grundig and they have added all these new details to my case and that they will call me back in three days once they have reviewed the new information. In the past three weeks Currys have told me that they would call me back in four different occasions but have never called once so I won't hold my breath, but at least I hope this means that they can now start sort it out between themselves.... I will keep this thread updated.

You may want to consider complaining to Grundig again that Currys are now delaying another three days.  It's not for you to be chasing Currys - Grundig should be doing that for you because it is they, not you, who have the contract with Currys.

Explain to them that it is they who have the ability to exert influence on Currys - you have no relationship with Currys regarding Grundig's warranty.  Remind them you've now had three weeks - or whatever - in the middle of Summer without a working fridge.

(Suggest to them that rather than just giving you an uplift number, get them to speak to Currys directly and sort everything out regarding the warranty for you, and get somebody from Currys to call you back).

Just a quick update for those following the thread - shortly after complaining to Grundig as people suggested, Curry did indeed call me (the first time they have called in over three weeks) to 'discuss' a solution. My original fridge is quite slim at only 54cm and as they did not have have anything of similar spec for the same price we agreed on them picking up the old fridge and me receiving a full refund which I am happy with. I can go ahead an purchase another fridge from somewhere like AO or Hughes which seems to have a slightly better selection of 'slim' fridges. They are coming to pick up the old fridge this Saturday and then a full refund should follow within seven days, we will see....
