Order cancelled - company attempting delivery anyway

I figured I'd take advantage of the Shark vacuum cleaner offer in this week's MSE e-mail and placed an order. Shark's website promised next-day delivery, which did not occur. When asked, Shark told me that the vacuum cleaner was out of stock and would be delivered in two weeks' time. Understandable; I expect the offer was quite popular.

So I cancelled the order yesterday afternoon.

Overnight I received two e-mails from Shark advising that the vacuum cleaner had been despatched and would be delivered.

However, I already cancelled the order. The company hasn't yet refunded the money, but the order was cancelled.

The purchase was over £100 and was paid for by credit, not debit.

When the courier rocks up with an item which isn't mine - because the order was cancelled - what's the best thing to do? Turn the courier away? Take delivery of the item and have it taking up space while I wave CRA 2015 and CCA 1974 at the seller and the credit company? Something else?

    Refuse delivery

Its likely at the point of cancellation it was already on a pallet with hundreds of other orders and too late to stop it going out.

Easiest to turn it away, otherwise you're into having to liaise with them on a return.

20 minutes ago the lady at Shark, to whom I spoke yesterday to cancel the order, called me to discuss the order cancellation and refund. She had promised she'd call back either yesterday afternoon, or first thing this morning.

She opened with an apology and an acknowledgement that the parcel had been shipped, that the warehouse did not act on (or did not receive in time) the instruction to cancel the shipment. She advised that, if I still wished to cancel the order, to reject the delivery upon arrival and send the parcel back with the courier.

While we were on the phone, the courier arrived with the parcel. So I did as she suggested and declined it.

Just curious ... if you wanted the vacuum but only cancelled because they'd said it was going to take 2 weeks, but actually it only took a couple of days - why didn't you decide to revoke the cancellation and keep it?

    Two reasons:

Firstly - and most importantly - Shark had already received an instruction to cancel the order. It should not have been delivered at all, regardless of how swiftly.

Secondly, on the expectation of having to wait two weeks to receive the order from Shark, I purchased an alternative elsewhere which renders this order superfluous.

Thanks - I wondered if that may have been the reason. :)
