FCO Advice and Travel Insurance

Options
Hi, our LO has a heart condition so travel insurance is essential.  Today the FCO decided that Spain was available for non-essential travel.  However, every travel insurance policy I've looked at states that travel against FCO advice 'on the date of travel' is not covered and not refundable.  So if I book today, when travel advice is ok but they change it back next week I cannot claim if I have to cancel the holiday.  Can anyone advise of any insurers that cover this?  Seems to be a massive loophole?m tia

There are companies that will cover travel against FCDO advice against travel with an extra addon to teh policy.

Do a Google search for 'travel insurance FCDO advice'.

Carefully read their restrictions though… unlike some others, anyone 70+ wanting longer than 35 days away springs to mind. We only travel for 2 or 3 weeks at a time and then only up to 5 trips a year.

Those with European holiday homes and aged over 70 are in a bit of a pickle, unless they rely solely on an EHIC card.

With such a high risk of getting the virus in a pandemic the Insurance companies aren't going to want the cost of lengthly serious treatment, extra time and flights in the case of isolation etc.
Insurance cost is based on the risk you and they  are taking.
But with the pressure to go abroad they are advertising covid cover - it's just seldom what you think you are covered against.
You need the cover for the person (of any age) and a family member to stay in accommodation to support them. Then there's the recovery time and extra flights.
That's what you need to look for - and why it isn't cheap.
Sadly until there is some certainty about the virus, vaccination etc Travel Insurance is going to be another deciding factor in travel along with the tests.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
