Not so Smart electric meter

I had SMETS2 Gas and Elec meters installed a couple of years ago and at first all worked well. Then the Elec stopped sending readings and the supplier said it would need a site visit, but along came Covid and put a stop to that. I've since changed supplier to Shell and the Gas is still working fine, but when I ask Shell to fix the Elec they say no as it's probably down to a lack of signal. After pointing out the Gas is OK they say the two meters are completely separate; I understood the gas sends the reading to the elec which sends them onto the network;   is this correct ?

  • Yes, the electric meter is the one that "talks" to the network and sends in both readings.

    Not quite.
The gas meter sends its readings to the 'gas proxy' which is located in the comms hub.
The comms hub sits on top of the electric meter but is not part of it.
.. but even so, Shell are still talking rubbish.
Both gas and electric meters pass their information through the comms hub so whatever the problem is, it is not a 'lack of signal'.
