Hello

On the 6th July, I received an email from EON saying that over the next few months they are upgrading their systems and I will become part of the new face of EON - EON NEXT. It goes on to say that my gas & electric will remain the same and carry on working as usual. However, they then say that they will be sending me a bill each month and that the bills will be estimated unless ive sent reading's in, or if I prefer I can have a smart meter fitted.
At the moment I get a bill every quarter, which I am happy with and I want to keep it like this. I dont have a smart meter and I dont want one, I just dont like the idea of them. I much prefer doing my own readings and sending them in when required. But it seems that even though I dont have a smart meter, EON are now going to bill me each month as though I have one. Is there anything I can do, or is it a case of put up & shut up?
Thanks

It's the way it's all going unless you want to be on standard tarrif.

That said I hated eon next as emailing pdf's is as far as I am concerned an unsecure and a flawed method (I would be fine if spoofed, others may not). I left ASAP.

Should get a smart meter though, only good things. (I will leave now before the anti smart brigade and their silly thoughts appear).

It doesn't stop you giving meter readings and if you are paying in advance, then you are paying less in one go.  So you would be a winner from this change.

If you send them a meter reading every quarter, then you will have a correct bill every quarter.  Any errors in the two estimated ones in between will be sorted out when you give the actual one.  So the amount you end up paying after 3 months will be the same.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

I had the same email.I too pay quarterly. So if it goes monthly, fine.I will set up an alert, send a reading and pay it. I had a bad experience with direct debit,so don’t do it,and I AM one of the “Anti smart meter brigade “. It’ll work for me.

I am in the same position as all of you with this new proposal we will constantly be on online banking doing payments - if we remember

Paying every 3 months has worked ok for many years and there is no reason to pay monthly - bt does not ask for this and also others don't as well

I am not nor have never been in arrears and can not see why they are imposing these 'special' terms on me

I don't believe you can pay quarterly anymore for BT for new customers.  Its just legacy.

hardly special.   At the end of the day, if you dont like it you are free to find another supplier.

    Its hardly a big deal.

I'm sure you have paid all your bills promptly but in truth your account is always in arrears because you pay in arrears.  Henceforward it will only be allowed to get to one month in arrears rather than three months.

  • A key driver for change was the need to reduce customer support costs; hence, E.oN and a number of other suppliers across the World, have introduced a new billing platform from Kraken Technologies ( a part of the Octopus Energy Group). Having been an Octopus Energy customer for over 3 years, I doubt that there is a better billing platform than Kraken. Octopus non smart meter customers get a statement every time that meter readings are entered into the App; smart meter customers get a statement every month. My electricity statement runs to over 30 pages with extremely detailed usage graphs!

I am advised each month that a DD payment is being taken, and I can adjust my monthly payment via the App.

I dont do direct debit either, as I also had a bad experience from it.

that is exactly the same for me. When EON send me a bill I always do a meter reading and I always enter it on line. Then a new bill is generated and I pay it, and then thats it for 3 months, I can forget it. As a single mum not working, every quarter is perfect for me as it allows me the time to put some money aside every week and to budget things, but having a bill every month!!!! I think im really going to struggle.
