SSE blocking move to Pure Planet
Hi everyone I hope you can help. Last year Spark Energy became SSE. I’d always been told my meter readings were taken remotely but SSE requested I submit them. Upon doing so I saw my electric reading was much lower which for months they refused to accept over countless calls and about 15 more submissions with photo evidence.
My gas was much higher and all in all I was immediately in debt of £100s. In the end I had a plan of £120pm for usage and pay some off.
However I have now been made unemployed and called sse to let them know I’ll only be able to afford my usage which as a small one bedroom home and living alone I expect to be around £70pm. The figure they gave me tho is over £100. I explained that my readings were off in January so calculating an average wasn’t accurate but they refused and insisted I use over £70 of gas a month alone.
I was then to be passed to another department. I wasn’t entirely sure why but I joked I’d probably be cut off as has been the case a majority of times I’ve contacted sse. Sure enough I’m transferred to a number that is no longer in use and the call is terminated.
So then I figured I’d just switch supplier, pay an actual accurate amount and pay sse back at a later date or whatever would happen.

Sse blocked the move to switch to pure planet, emailed to tell me I still owe them so can’t move, emailed me that my payment plan had been cancelled but then also an email of “we’re sorry to see you leave”!?!? All within 24hrs. I’ve tried calling and of course after waiting 15 minutes I’m told all their systems are down and to call back later.
Im sorry for the ramble. I guess my question is can they really block the move? What can I do when they’re asking for far more than I’m using?
I should mention also that before when I was paying what I thought was my usage they didn’t take my payments into account as it wasn’t agreed with and they sent round a bully to knock loud on my door to demand payments who posted a letter to say I hadn’t contacted them or paid anything for months!?!!

Yes they can block the move if you are in debt. Work out a payment plan to cover usage and debt , set that up and once the debt has been paid off you are free to leave.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth

Right but the usage they have for me isn’t correct and are insisting I pay over £100pm. Can you give us some actual meter readings please - back to the start of your time with SSE and a reading of today. What was your credit (or debit) when you started with SSE. ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
