Wise has given me the option to buy shares in their company. I wonder if anyone else has invested and whether its a good idea?

I received an email today that I have been selected. But the purchase period isn't open yet. I am not clued up on buying shares in general and hence in a worst position to answer your question. I will subscribe to this thread and hopefully someone will come along and answer.
SPC 08 - #452 - £415
SPC 09 - #452 - £2980 -
You have been able to buy shares in Wise since 11am on 7 July as they decided to go for a Direct Listing on LSE rather than through an IPO. Opening price was 800p and rose to 897p by close of play yesterday.
I think many people were waiting for an IPO to open so several will have been caught by surprise and have missed the initial surge in price.Old dog but always delighted to learn new tricks!0 -
WISE Shares. Has anyone who invested a year ago actually received their Bonus Shares? I did so on 12th July 2021 but have not as yet. Just wondering if they should have showed up in my Hargreaves account ?0

So unless you get it at a heavily discounted price, buying share; "at the market price" just because you have been invited (or pre-selected, the wording the marketer frequently do to make people feel special) is not something that will need to be taken into consideration when making decision. In Investing in individual stock the good start is look at the fundamental analysts analysing their balance sheet, revenue, that commonly used to value a stock, looking into various ratio for comparative analysis to get to know whether that particular stock is currently selling at a heavily discounted price, etc. Also good to look at the analysts price target, watching the recent news about the company.0
