WOW, a post that ISN'T complaining about DVLA slowness or VED or I bought a secondhand Fiesta in 2008 and one of the fuses has blown, how do I sue the previous owner for a full refund + compensation.....

The DVLA’s online processes have improved tremendously in recent years and they can, and do, work very swiftly and efficiently. They deserve great credit for that, imho.
However, if issues do arise and some human intervention is needed then that’s when things can get seriously de-railed;...there are a few helpful/knowledgeable humans at the DVLA but they’re a shrinking commodity. Most of the staff are little more than unwavering pre-programmed automatons who are guided by strict procedure;...imho of course.

Have to agree with the OP about the automated part of DVLA. Changed home address three times in the past year or so and each time I completed the process online and the new V5 appeared days later.
A few months ago I needed to renew my licence due to an age medical. Sent the paperwork to DVLA by post and new licence was received three weeks later.
Some things work well at DVLA.0 -

The Hull branch moved to Beverley and I had regular dealings with the staff
They then decided to close the local offices

DVLA lost most of their most knowledgeble and helpful staff when they closed the local office
I was in the middle of a year-long-and-counting saga with one office when it closed. They were sending post to the wrong address, they were losing inspection reports...
One phone call to Swansea once it was transferred, and it was sorted the same day.
I mourn them not one jot.0 -
The "sensitive case team" at Swansea are very good, even the humans.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

I'm waiting for a V5 to pop through the door of someone that's just removed their private plate so I can pop up and buy the car - so this gives me hope that it'll be sooner than later. (Especially as I know they've been going through a tough time of late)0
